Val, Tema 602 Ammons 85282 As a representative of the owner for the above mentioned project this is a request to consider F 480.921.7579 an alternate means and method to meet the intent of the code. The IBC indicates that the project mentioned above is required to have an Emergency Voice/Alarm Communications PRINCIPALS system as the total occupant load of this building exceeds 1,000. (See IBC section 907.2.1.1). Raymond R. BeMer, AM This building has a total occupancy load of 1,144. DaAd L Casst. AM Merle A Darts, AM G'ENEREAL INFORMATION: eon A. edmenn,AlA Donald T. ALA ALTERNATE MEANS and METHODS: Michael CoslanOno, NCIDO It Is proposed that in place of the electronic prerecord system the Intent of the code can be Jeffrey B. Gardner, AIA, LEED achieved with LIVE voices. Due to the function of this building it will always be staffed by `enneHenan' "I" temple workers/escorts when visitors or patrons are in attendance. The are trained In the P Y Kenner AaLEBDW function and use of the building and very familiar with the location of exits and what to do in an wall A. Larhln, AM Larkin. Bob PaVo11. ALA emergency. Let me explain how this works. w.JeBrayThoma LOWER LEVEL: The patrons enter on the west end. As they come in the building they will be greeted by 1-2 escorts. Upon arrival they are assigned an escort who stays with them during their stay at the temple. The patrons will be shown to the dressing rooms and the escort will remain outside in the corridor to provide assistance. In the font area there are a minimum of 2 additional escorts with up to four or more at a time. In the chapel area there will be a minimum of 2 escorts as well. There are escorts also stationed in several areas of the corridor to give assistance. These workers/escorts are qualified to give assistance in and emergency and are familiar with the locations of the exits. The men's and women's dressing rooms on this level are for the workers in the temple. They know the locations of the exits and know what to do in an emergency. The same can be said for the laundry and mechanical/electrical areas. These workers have been trained what to do in an emergency and are familiar with the locations of the exits. MAIN LEVEL: The patrons enter on the east end, They are greeted by temple workers located at the front desk and throughout the corridors. They are assisted to the patron's dressing rooms where there is additional temple workers stationed to give assistance. There is an average of 8-9 workers located in the dressing room areas. The workers direct them from the dressing room to the stairs that lead them to the floors above. The non patron area also Includes 1-2 temple ,.01 aaaa workers who assist the visitors at all times. The administration offices have trained temple workers who know what to do In an emergency and are familiar with the location of the exits. SECOND LEVEL: The patrons start at the chapel. Here they are assigned an escort who leads them to Instruction room "K. In Instruction Room "A" the escort who leads them to this room stays with them. There are 3 additional escorts in this room who stays with them and as they move Into Instruction Room "B" and throughout the proceedings. They are then escorted into the Lobby by the same escorts. In the lobby there are several additional escorts stationed for the assistance of the patrons. Also on this level there are in the corridor stationed 2-3 escorts/temple workers to give assistance. The patrons are never alone without an escorthemple worker near by. These escorts/temple workers are trained who know what to do In an emergency and know where the exits are located. THIRD LEVEL: As the patrons enter this level from the stairs or the elevator they are greeted by escorts/temple workers. They are escorted to the waiting rooms. There are also 2-3 minimum temple workers located in the corridors at all times. From the waiting areas they are escorted to the sealing rooms which have 1-2 workers to greet them and to assist. There is always at least one temple worker in the sealing room with the patrons. There are escorts located just outside each room for additional assistance. These escorts/temple workers are trained who know what to do in an emergency and know where the exits are located. FOURTH LEVEL: Only for temple maintenance workers! No patrons are allowed on this level. The maintenance workers are very familiar with the exits and emergency procedures. There may be times in which an outside maintenance/repair person may enter this level or other parts of the building. They will always be accompanied by temple maintenance personal. CONCLUSION: Val, it Is felt that with the amount of personal assistance as indicated above, the voice alarm can be achieved by the escorts/temple workers in this building. It is believed that this meets the intent of the code for a voice alarm system. The real voice (escorts/temple workers) will provide a more superior system than the electronic voice system. The electronic system only repeats the same thing over and over again. The escorts can give not only voice directions but also show them the way to the nearest exit They are trained to be responsible for the patrons as they enter the temple and attend the temple until they leave the temple building. This alternate method meets and we believe exceeds the intent of the code. We ask that you accept this method as an alternate means and method as allowed by the code and allow us to proceed with an automatic horntstrobe fire alarm system for this building. Thanks for considering this and look forward to hearing from you. Please contact me if you have any questions. Sincerely, Bob etraff, #1A Project Manager 02005 ArcHtecWml Noma, inc.
