Rexburg City Council
Due to ill health, I am unable to attend this next meeting of the
Planning and Zoning commission of the City of Rexburg scheduled
for 22 February 2006. The notification I received about the property
next door being rezoned is of great concern to me and I hope this
letter will be considered. I am sorry I am not there in person to read
this statement but I hope someone will read it for me or that all the
council members will have an opportunity to read it.
have enjoyed our neighbors for the past 50+ years and look forward
o a continuation of a family or couple living next to me in the home
ocated at 280 E Main St. This feeling of neighbors looking out for
one another, being there for one another in r, _q 11of a crisis or
emergency ,being able "
to talk to one another when we are out in the
yard, taking in one another's mail or watching out for the property
when one goes on vacation are some of the reasons we enjoy a
neighborhood. Additionally close neighborhoods protect against
crime.,
Thi current owner of the property stated his intent to seek a variance
from the City of Rexburg to establish a business in the home and tear
down the garage, additional paving to the property and put parking in
the back of the building.
I have grave concerns in having park -Ing lots on both sides of my
home; the pleasure of living in a residential area and the value of the
property would be greatly diminished.
I oppose a business being located at this site. I also oppose any
modification to the garage or the historic rock wall that divides our
properties. I believe that any modifications to the property should be
subject to current residential zoning restrictions and structure
setbacks. I protest any action which seeks to circumvent these
restrictions. I sincerely hope the property V
-11 remain a residential
home.
In the Public Hearing on August 17, 2005 concerning the proposed
rezoning of this property to be " commercial I stated my views and
the council voted against rezoning at that time. I hope this direction
will prevail and that we will continue to have historic and residential
beauty in this part of the city. The RBD is simply a way to circumvent
the'l'ntent of the council and the desires of the neighborhood. The
RBD's simply a guise to "sneak " commercial businesses into our
neighborhood.
Please do not create islands of commercial
the integrity, safety, and good feeling of our
property that will threaten
neighborhood.
Please do not allow the well -moneyed and politically we
to steamroll the dreams of an insignificant widow.
Sincerely,
Lanae Clarke
