We are evaluating the possibility of leasing the back portion of the subject building. Since the front portion is bein� leased b
Custom Auta (BVI occupancy} and our Proposed op�ratiflns would fall, under the S-1 occupancy, the separation between the Y
tenants is required to have a fire resistance rating of 3 hours,.'
The purpose of this letter is to provide the technical justification fo.r the attached design to upgrade the existing separation wall.
The -building codes contain provisions by which the fire resistance of specific materials or combinations afmaterials is
estat�lished by calculatian.2�'�4. Such provisions were included for "instances when materiats and assemblies in a building
undergoing rehabiIi�ation cannot be found in the Appendix Tables". � The existing separation walI in the subject building is just
such an instance. Consequently the data and procedures in the respective odes have been used to determine the desin
required. to upgrade the existing separation wall to a 3 Baur fire resistance rating. g
The following sources were used to calculate the nr�inimum fire resistance rating of the individual layers in the design,

resistance rating greaten- than the sum of the fire resistance ot'the individual layers.5

fiber mineral wool insulation. Each wall is finished with a wood stz-uctural paneling that
