The following IISt provides more detailed descripflons
of the requirements in Section 4 of the Mechanical Gmliance Certificatet
Requirements specific To: HVACSy,%teM 1
Requirements Specific To:- Storage Water Heater I -
I - Heat "ps are required on non Circulating water heating systems on both inlet and outlet connections. Heat traps may be
PurChased or field -fabricated by creafingloop or inverted U-shaped
2. Pipe insulation fGr the specified noncirculating Service hot water system is the mquired for alf piping in the folloWngcategoAes:a)

Service water heating equipment used solely for heating potablewater,
the following miniumum efficiency: No efficiency requi I rements for water heate r wfth storag e capacity less tha n 20 gal I Ion s.
Generic Requirements: Must be met by all systems to which the requirement is applicable:
I . Design heating and coolinig loads for the building must be determined using proceduresin
Fundamentals or an approved lent caiculation PMGedure.
. All equi.pment and systems must be sized to be no greater than needed to meet calculated loads. A single piece of equipment
providing both heafing and cooling mut satlsfisprovision f r one function with the capacity for the other - b n as small
as Visible, Mhin available equipment options.
Excephon: The equipment and/or system Gapacity may be greater than calculatedloads for standby
equipment must be autocnatically controlled to be off when the primary equipment and/or system is operating.
Exception: Muffiple units of the same equipment type whose combined a e exceed the calctdated load are allowed
if they are provided wfth controls to sequence operation of the units as the load increases or decmases.
a Each heating or cc>olinq system serving a single zone must have its own temperature cowl device,
. Each humidification system must have its own humidity control device ■
S. The system or zone conA must be a programmable thermostat orother automatc wnW meeting the follovWng C-literia4a)
capable of sung back temperature to 55 degrees F during heating nd seffing up to 85 degrees F dun"ng coo! i capable of
automatiGally setting back or shutting down systems during unoccupied hours using 7 different rent d a chi u l have an
accessible 2-ftr occupant rrid have a battery back-up capable of maintaining programmed tfin for at least 1
hours wig mer.
Excepton: A setback or shutoff control is not req a .red on thermostats that control systems sang areas that operate
Exception: A setback w shutoffcontrol- is not require on systems with total energy demand of 2 kW (6,826 t 'h) or
less.
The system rn St supply outside ventilation air as required by Chapter 4 of the Ince Mechanical . If the ventilation
system F designed t supply outdoor -air guanines exceeding nimum required levels, the system must be capable of
reducing outdoor -air flow to the mini required levels.
T. R pipes servingspace-condftioning SYStemst bel ✓dated as follows.- Hot water piping for heafing systams: I in. fbr pipes
11/ -ire. nominal diameter 2 in for pipe1 -ire. nominal diameter. Chilled water, ref gerant, and brine piping systems: I
in.. insulabon for pipes <=1/ 4 ; nominal diameter 1 1/2 In. insulation for pipes >1 11 _in nominal diameter.
1/2 In. insulabon for pipes <=I 1/2 -in. nominal diameter 3 in., insulation for pipes >1 V24n.. n r inal diameter,
i
Exception Pipe in ul is not required for factory -in tubed piping within HVAC equipment.
.
Exceptiom Pipe insulation is not required for piping that conveys fluids having a design operating temperature ran
ge
between 55 degrees F and 105 degrees F.
F
Exception: Pipe insulation is not required for piping that conveys fluids that have not been heated Wiled through Um
w
use of fossil fuels or electic power.
