Plan Map Amend.Pat Hinton 55 South 2nd East Rexburg ID 83440 Phone 208-359-9064 September 2, 2004 Planning & Zoning Committee To Members of the Board: As I am not able to attend your meeting this evening, I wish for you to have my words considered while your making your difficult decisions. My name is Patricia Hinton. I reside on family property located at 55 South 2nd East. This property is owned by my cousin Mary L. Burn, who is more like a grandmother. I pay the property taxes & insurance on this home. Her wishes are that the property remains as single family housing. I also wish for it to be that way. At some point in the near future, I will be the listed property owner and plan to remain living at that same location. I have come to love the neighborhood as it is. Some people complain about the traffic & noise on 2nd East. I don't have a problem with it because I allow extra time. As for the noise, it usually is not that bad. I do hear the sirens & am concerned for those who have been hurt or needing that help. But that is part of life. I can deal with that. As for the family neighborhood, I feel safe & secure with my neighbors. I have been blessed with kind & honest ones. I can leave things in by back yard & know they will be there when I come back. My kitties are safe with going behind my house towards Professional Plaza. I enjoy my back yard, watching the gold finches, humming birds, the squirrels teasing my cat, & just being able to relax to enjoy the peace & quiet of the summer evenings. I love to hear the children riding their skateboards on the hill behind Dr. Smith's office in the evenings. Their laughter & teasing makes me realize how lucky I am to live where I do. I have tried to improve on a nice home in the 2 years I have lived here & I feel I have accomplished that by having complete strangers stop to comment on my yard. I feel good to live in a neighborhood where I'm not afraid to talk to strangers & they of coming to my door to ask questions & comment on what I have accomplished. I set out to improve the looks of my property & feel that I have. This seems to be spreading because the house just south of me started looking better at about the same time. Look at the houses in my block and you will see that people take pride in their homes. It would be a great loss to the City of Rexburg if our neighborhood was destroyed. I have friends come from out of state & comment on how nice our area is & say this is where they would like to relocate to. They comment on the clean, well cared for homes, especially the older homes. I realize the city is growing fast. With all this change going on, please maintain & protect my neighborhood as single family homes. After 10 years and the city has settled down, re-evaluate our area. I understand some of my neighbors want to sell their homes for other than single family residences. They should be able to, but please put tight restrictions on record for what can take place on those properties. Please, PLEASE protect the feel of the area. Once our neighborhood is gone, it can never be replaced. I love where I live. I feel it is your responsibility to help protect it. Thank you for hearing me out & I trust you have & will deliberate on this matter very long and hard. I just want you to know I appreciate all the hard work you are doing in a job where you can never please all the people. You are doing a great job. Sincerely, Pat Hinton 55 South 2nd East Rexburg
