HomeMy WebLinkAboutWRITTEN RESPONSE - 06-00416 - Between Rolling Hills & Terra VistaFriday November 10, 2006 Mayor Shawn Larson Rexburg City Council Rexburg Planning and Zoning Commission RE: Extension of Shoshone Drive beyond 5" South. To the Honorable Mayor, City Council and Planning and Zoning Commission: We are concerned about the plan for development in the neighborhoods around our home and would like to comment on the planning of Shoshone Drive. It seems that our home sits in the middle of a direct route for Shoshone Drive to extend southward. In fact, the western corner of the house is only a few feet from the property line. There are three issues which we offer for your consideration: • As Shoshone Drive is developed southward to bend around our property, we hope to see a reasonable setback distance from our house, such that will protect our property value and the aesthetics of the neighborhood. Our subdivision provides generous space between homes and roads and it would be incongruous to bring a road in close proximity to our home. The plat for Harvest Heights did not accommodate an easement for Shoshone Drive; thereby our neighbors to the south will enjoy a significant buffer from what will certainly become a busy road. • We are also concerned about the city charging us for development of the sidewalk along the east easement of Shoshone. This is an almost 400 feet. This is the side and back of our home and we will not have access to Shoshone—our orientation is exclusively to Harvest Drive. We feel this should be the responsibility of the developer. • A final concern is the drainage of water from the Harvest Heights subdivision. Most of the water from the neighborhood to our south and east drains down the hill, between our home and the house to the east, on it's way to the field north of Harvest Heights. We are concerned that proper drainage be planned in the new subdivision to allow for the flow of runoff. Admittedly, the engineering of Harvest Heights intended to maintain all water on the subdivision but this has never been the case and will continue to be a problem. A house built directly north of our home will be in danger of flooding. We appreciate the diligence and foresight of the city leaders in dealing with the growth of neighborhoods. It is not easy to balance the needs of the homeowners and community planners. We hope to be constructive in our discussions about the development of Shoshone Drive. Please contact us if there are meetings in which the topic of Shoshone Drive and the development around it might be discussed. Thank you for your consideration.
