HomeMy WebLinkAboutWRITTEN RESPONSE - 06-00378 - Haney - 276 & 264 Steiner Ave - CUP for DormitoryDear Planning and Zoning Commission,
As a homeowner on Steiner Ave, I am strongly opposed to the Conditional Use Permit for
dormitory style housing at 276 Steiner Ave, 264 Steiner Ave, and 366 W P S to be discussed in
a Public Hearing on Aug 17`h. My reasons for opposition include
The street is narrow, and already there are problems with parking. One of these rental
units had cars parked on the yard this winter because there was not enough parking
otherwise. I would hate to see these yards turned into parking lots. Because this is a
narrow, dead end street, with no circle or cul-de-sac, there is not a lot of room for cars to
drive or turn around. Even the garbage truck has to turn around before it comes down the
street. I am concerned that the increase in traffic would make traffic and parking a
serious problem.
2. If you drive down the street you will be able to tell the owner occupied homes
immediately by their well kept lawns and yards. On the rental lots, a few trees have died
and been chopped down, and many of the lawns are brown and dying. The
owners/renters of these units have not been taking care of their property, and I expect
their neglect to continue if this Conditional Use Permit is granted.
3. I have heard that the owners of these units are asking for this Condition Use Permit to
make what they have been doing for the last few years "legal". If this is true, than I am
very concerned about their future compliance. How can we expect them to comply with
all the rules/regulations if they don't have a history of compliance in the past?
4. This is a "family" street. Granted there are some houses being used as apartments, but
there are single family homes also. One of the reasons I purchased my home in this area
is because of the quiet neighborhood, and I would be disappointed to see that disappear.
Unfortunately I will be unable to attend the Public Hearing on this topic, but I hope you will
consider my position and concerns. Thank you for you service to this great city.
