I am calling on you as our elected officials of this community to represent the true majority voice of the people of this community and vote AGAINST this ordinance which is in direct violation of the Constitution of the United States of America and the Constitution of the State of Idaho - Which states in Article I Section 1. "All men are by nature free and equal, and have certain inalienable rights, among which are enjoying and defending life and liberty; acquiring, possessing and protecting property; pursuing happiness and securing safety." We the people of Rexburg Idaho should be free to choose how, when and where we "protect" ourselves from a virus that is 99.96% recoverable according to the CDC and the WHO and in the opinion of countless medical professionals, the names of which I will include below. This Proposed Ordinance poses a direct threat to the livelihood of our economic security here in Rexburg due to the absolute unnecessary, unlawful, and unfair demands and burden it places on businesses in this community. If in the name of "public safety" you wish to pass this ordinance then you had better realize and fully acknowledge that true safety and security comes not from the absence of illness and other unforeseen natural forces but true safety and security comes from being free to choose how to protect yourself, your family, your personal property and your livelihood which are the inalienable rights given to us by God as stated in the Constitution. If you are truly concerned for public safety and security then you will also fully acknowledge and understand that placing undue financial and temporal burdens on businesses and families requiring them to provide masks and extra staff, and the burden of extra time, planning and cost this requires for businesses is a direct threat to the safety and security of business owners and families in this community. You must also acknowledge the toll this has and will continue to have on the mental health and wellness of all members of the community due to the increased fear, anxiety and depression this ordinance will cause. A requirement to wear face coverings promotes fear of a virus that 99.96% of the population fully recover from. This virus has caused less deaths than the seasonal flu, smoking, heart disease, car accidents and countless other ailments that afflict our society every year. There is absolutely no need for the excessive measures you are promoting in this ordinance and is affording our elected officials far too much power which is "inherent in the people" of this community according to Article I, Section 2 of the Idaho State Constitution. Limited government is the founding principle of our great nation and our great city. Large government promotes corruption and threatens our personal freedoms. Which brings me to my last point... as elected officials of this community you should be ashamed to vote on such a measure without the explicit voice of the people being made known in person, allowing all in the community to speak on this matter who wish to do so. A much greater effort should have been made on your parts to make this proposed ordinance much more widely known to the public as it threatens so many of our rights. I again implore each of you to vote AGAINST an ordinance which so clearly goes against the moral and conservative values which are embraced by the majority of people in this great community. It is literally the reason I am proud to be a resident here in Rexburg.
