It affects everybody in one way or another. With the undeniable suffering related to Covid-19, those in authority strongly push for action of some kind. With the turmoil added from many of the related and unrelated events of this year (2020), many more push back against such actions. These two forces fight against each other daily and create more mistrust and anger. Which side pushes the correct actions? Two rational exist. In truth, neither of these facts alone should push for legislative action of any kind. Legislatures need to consider far more than the fact that the facts that "everybody else" is doing it. Masks are an important part of slowing the spread of disease but they aren't even the most effective measures. The idea here is that if you are going to push a law of some kind, PRIORITIZE the laws. The mask is simply the most visible of the measures and therefore the "easist" to use to appease those who say the government is doing nothing at all. Don't be intimidated by those that say such foolishness. With the vaccine now having been announced as nearly ready and using a science that makes those who feared it willing to admit it was done correctly, these measures are fully within the realms of overreaching power and are unnecessary. The majority of businesses in the area already have such signs posted in their businesses, and current laws regarding medical knowledge pretty much forbids those in businesses to actually ask whether or not somebody in an exception or not. The measures that would need to take place to make businesses compliantly inquire of such exceptions requires medical persons, private settings, and a secured agreement between patron and business. Therefore, this ordinance already conflicts with Federal Law on its face. Additionally, it isn't in the realm of best public interest because the community at large already has been hurt by entire year of hardship, pain, mistrust, and the misuse of government authority. The City of Rexburg is not except from this either. To think this is the case is one of the largest reasons why there is a protest being formed as you read this article. Many other mandates that have been implemented have created situations where those who have lost loved ones did so without closure and therefore increased the loss significantly. Other measures leave others in a constant state of fear and anxiety. Instead of encouraging people to get tested, these measures have encouraged many people to hide their illness. I dare say those who hide it are the biggest risks the spread of the disease, far more than people who are asymptomatic and not wearing a mask. Need I remind you that the reason that we have these measures was originally to decrease suffering and improve the well being of those in our community? The fact that no input from the community was taken in regards to this ordinance and that it took investigative reporting to even bring it to public knowledge is appalling. Those of you who instigated this action ought to feel ashamed of such rash action born out of fear and frustration. You were not elected to your positions to act out of fear and desperation. Wisdom and democracy should be the prevailing guidance in your decisions. To think otherwise goes against the founding principals of our great land. But this does leave the question, what should be done in face of the pandemic? The answer to that is to educate the public in more ways than a Facebook live feed and a sign at a busy intersection. The City of Rexburg is making a desperate action to enforce masks and therefore increase the hardship of those in the city without taking reasonable steps toward helping the public help themselves. We know that funding, and other monetary incentives are the reasoning behind this and combined with the fact that education has been severely undervalued along with the motivations behind this being at least  in part to maintain the financial gain of this situation, I accuse you all of being greedy and lazy. I don't make such accusations lightly either. We have had an entire year to see the actions of this council the lack of input from the community shows me I am justified in my opinion of your characters. I also believe that you can change. Change your motivations toward the overall good of the community, including both those employeed by businesses and the owners themselves. We need not increase the suffering this year. The biggest push back against mask has been admittedly been because political stances and figures in the nation, with little to no regard to facts or evidence. As an example, when was the last time a hand washing mandate was pushed? Yet hand washing it far more effective at stopping the spread of any illness. I am not suggesting we do that however because how would you even enforce that. Its not seen. And that is the ONLY reason we are even considering mask rules. They are visible and EASY to enforce. That doesn't mean they should. Mask can and have caused harm to those who didn't know they had the conditions that are reasons for exemptions from mask mandates. Masks also cause emotional distancing in more ways than we can possibly realize. Social distancing already has been implemented. The spread of the illness in our community can be attributed mostly to ignorance, fear, and yes disregard for rules and suggestions. However, we can tackle all three with better educational efforts. The law only addresses the last of these three major factors and does a poor job of that as well because it doesn't cover social situations and it also exacerbates the second, especially when the enforcement is so sever. Please don't pass this ordinance. Be patient for the light of day is nearly here with this illness. Let the holidays be the start of a season of healing and not of oppression and anger. 1F99A7B4AFE26748A73D00AAA1DA65C6@rexburg.org <b0d14814-4124-2096-6699-0ec904c2e176@gmail.com> Tyler Lazenby SMTP tyler.adam.lazenby@gmail.com SMTP tyler.adam.lazenby@gmail.com Tyler Lazenby Tyler Lazenby Deborah Lovejoy Deborah Lovejoy Tyler Lazenby Tyler Lazenby tyler.adam.lazenby@gmail.com tyler.adam.lazenby@gmail.com Anonymous II=0101D6BDEA9BD0CDE5F720017C4699FA9D54D8B35072;FIXUP=0.2211;Version=Version 15.0 (Build 847.0), Stage=H4 en CoR-EntMExSvr01.ci.rexburg.id.us https://10.10.0.3:443/cgi-mod/mark.cgi 1605731833 Don't Pass Ordinance 1243 mail-pf1-f175.google.com[209.85.210.175] by bsmtpd at rexburg.org No, SCORE=0.00 using global scores of TAG_LEVEL=3.5 QUARANTINE_LEVEL=1000.0 KILL_LEVEL=4.0 tests= Code version 3.2, rules version 3.2.3.85965 Rule breakdown below pts rule name description ---- ---------------------- -------------------------------------------------- 0.00 1605731833-15095536b2b0f440001-jsWnyn tyler.adam.lazenby@gmail.com v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=gmail.com; s=20161025; h=to:from:subject:message-id:date:user-agent:mime-version :content-transfer-encoding:content-language; bh=7PQyFke0uxSki2gpT4AXuXeUDKFo0uB2vHyUvVJy3c0=; b=SNErqDFFSc8EMMdBzGg6Mi4cB1w/s7L6LL/gxkShSSopis/Ju+kL6hOVRfX1M9PXS0 YZT18MZ3duB9c/lztP2VOR9KZbbA4PKer8X2HikZKic9LJG7e6zBEc34rR +XidovEz7T YT4ck/IRzPryhtxxATIArjR/tOBAUgzn44Tw+V155wolp8lzVcCdQclrln6aOp6Y7tNp 2Xx5Kg9mdzRLpitReEzrFyEf44O3+2gB3YXGyxYsoXsD1QvNXYdy2ysqmmZrs12BH5yz eID6mWNygPumsMHOnX8LJBnInU 554rYA5v5OgdwEL3UP0TGMeMS69efMcDzJFVN1z5vP IJVg== 209.85.210.175 1 v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=1e100.net; s=20161025; h=x-gm-message-state:to:from:subject:message-id:date:user-agent :mime-version:content-transfer-encoding:content-la nguage; bh=7PQyFke0uxSki2gpT4AXuXeUDKFo0uB2vHyUvVJy3c0=; b=BL7RWc43cS1MpsxzEhejYJ0rMD5uIJT3BjDpE73MJd6UfmpLpjacKuM6A/nvWzkEy+ umKkSUPjxCuSWCnfOf23DhLzio2mqHPbl18DWfiwEirRD0/+PDk IWbqu8ADS3gxaWXm3 LdFpm61pJ1cGjh2vM/6/KUSbtHJvbhODAKoqh6Ea5dCK4Tut1k/FAQXlFAtofAgu1KWe lFilu/bHPlLSYCahYBiAZ7iFrAqE71CG08W6xkZuAmP9DSacYblBXQUMR/rrooWevuSx poopF3k9kH9FoXkD5nn B+El9Rlw9tPSPQ9xTGhWAQkXeIZx3o03b6r/THM/lqK2X+ENi eJmg== AOAM533maif71l15D0mLXRrFw2pi2VuvCaE1plMEd+iWfTJbsZpyowFZ WX2BtQsvdMebZr6/d9O3X+bBgyr6gFvZgQ== by 2002:a17:90b:384b:: with SMTP id nl11mr824979pjb.126.1605731832689; Wed, 18 Nov 2020 12:37:12 -0800 (PST) Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:78.0) Gecko/20100101 Thunderbird/78.4.3 Deborah.Lovejoy@rexburg.org 00000002/o=RexburgCityMail/ou=First Administrative Group/cn=Recipients/cn=deborahl Customer Services EX /o=RexburgCityMail/ou=First Administrative Group/cn=Recipients/cn=CustomerServices CustomerServices@rexburg.org Customer Services
