I am even more disturbed that such a draconian mandate is being considered. I’ll be bringing a list of case studies that show that masks are not effective and not safe. Are you going to have sources available to support your mandate? For myself and many others, the effects of the lockdowns and draconian measures like these have caused more suffering and harm than COVID-19 has. We have suffered a loss of income and health insurance. We have many medical needs that haven’t been taken care of because of the shutdown of healthcare in anticipation of facilities being overwhelmed (that never happened) and loss of income and insurance. Now you are going to inflict more harm on local businesses by strong-arming them into enforcing unconstitutional mask mandates on their employees, vendors, and customers, and by strong-arming law enforcement to enforce these measures. You will cause the loss of business and less effective work from their employees. If the city council passes this ordinance I will not be using any services in Rexburg and I will not patronize any businesses in Rexburg unless absolutely necessary. I will shop in St Anthony, Rigby, or Idaho Falls. And, I won’t be bringing my business back after this, either. Please reconsider inflicting this type of harm on local businesses and citizens for something that isn’t supported by scientific evidence. Do your due diligence and look at real science. I think all in governmental offices should refer back to the oaths of office taken. The purpose of government is to serve “We the People”, to protect our liberties, and to defend the constitution. The government is not there to protect our health, that is the people’s responsibility. Sincerely, Melanie Hansen 1
