Subject:Mask Mandate
Dear Mayor Merrill & City Council,
I am writing to appeal to your American sense of freedom, your honor,
your belief that position does not give you power to mandate anyone to do
anything that is outside the power granted you by the position you hold,
and your belief in the American Constitution and Bill of Rights. I have
become aware of the upcoming discussion which will consider an
ordinance requiring all businesses to require masks of all employees and
patrons with a punishment of fine as well as losing their business license.
This is unbelievable!! Do we live in America or not? I plead with you to
NOT pass this ordinance.
This virus has over a 99% recovery rate!!! We had the highest number of
diagnosed COVID19 cases per capita in the United States and we only had
3 people admitted to the hospital, with no deaths from COVID19!!! Please
stop feeding fear and suspicion of our neighbors. STOP mandating actions
from our small businesses and allow them to make decisions for
themselves with their patrons.
Please consider NEVER AGAIN using the term "social distancing" and
instead use PHYSICAL DISTANCING (when necessary) in all signs and
information. People are becoming so socially isolated, full of anxiety,
untrusting of everyone around them and fearful. It's causing depression,
anxiety, stress and a whole host of illnesses that have nothing to do with
forced
COVID19, but from the FEAR being upon them by ordinances like
the one you are considering. We need to be socially close. You can
encourage physical distancing when needed, but we need to be loving and
caring neighbors, friends, and community members. PLEASE do NOT do
1
something more to cause increased isolation. Masks literally cause
isolation for so many people. Please need smiles. People need to be able to
recognize each other. People need facial cues and expressions to
communicate with each other. It makes no sense to wear masks unless you
are coughing, sneezing, ill, etc. Wearing them to check in at a restaurant
and then taking them off when you get to your table to eat, makes no
sense!! There are so many instances when mask requirements make no
sense. I guess, if you want to ENCOURAGE people to wear masks, you
have a right to do that, but STOP making mandates! We are done with
leaders who want to act like dictators. Please allow us to be free to make
wise choices. Allow us to be adults. Allow us to be AMERICANS!! Our
veterans fought TO KEEP US FREE!!! Stop the mandates!! Stop
punishing our local, small businesses! PLEASE!
Please vote NO for the mask mandate. Trust those people who put you
into office. Oh be wise, what can I say more?
Sincerely, Jennifer South
