Re: Structural Review — 80 -foot Monopole at the Madison Site for Proposed US Cellular CDMA
Antenna Installation
Dear Joe:
Artisan Engineering has completed a structural review of the original design documents,
existing antenna configuration, and the proposed US Cellular CDMA installation. The
document review was for the 2000 Hemphill design and the recent tower mapping completed
by General Dynamics. The purpose of the review was to determine if sufficient capacity exists
in the monopole to allow the proposed US Cellular CDMA panel antennas to be installed
without need for an additional monopole analysis.
The 80 -foot tall monopole is constructed of several stacked pipe sections. The monopole was
originally designed for 75 mph wind loading, slightly in excess of the local County
requirements, with %2 -inch of radial ice loading. It was also designed to support cellular arrays
at two platforms on top of the monopole and included (2) microwave antennas located on the
monopole.
The existing antenna loading consists of (9) top -mounted cellular panels as noted in the tower
mapping report. By inspection, it is obvious that the monopole has sufficient reserve capacity
to support the proposed US Cellular CDMA panels with no need for analysis, upgrade, or any
other structural concerns. We recommend that the US Cellular antennas be installed as
proposed and the antennas database for the tower be updated accordingly.
We have enjoyed working with you on this project. If you have any additional questions,
comments, or concerns please feel free to Cali.
Sincerely,
Timothy Wolden, PE
