To: Chairman Dyer & Commissioners of the Planning & Zoning Committee
Subject: Teton River Village Project
Dear Commissioners:
I have followed with interest the development of the above referenced project, because
I believe it has the potential to impact my adjacent business (Wendy's). As I expressed at
the first meeting I attended, I am not anti growth. I do however believe that growth needs
to be planned and orchestrated carefully so that the citizenry can in the future enjoy the
benefits of your foresight. I believe that every project should be evaluated with full
knowledge and input from the development group. Only after the project has done due
diligence with their research should they be permitted to proceed. With all due respect to
the developers of the above referenced project, I don't believe that is the process that has
been followed. I submit that the main question that needs to be addressed with reference
to the above referenced project is, what will be the impact on traffic & safety issues that
will be created by the development of this project? Has the research been done to justify a
stoplight at that location? Has the city had imput with DOT concerning this project?
When, if approved, will the Iight be installed? Who will pay for it? Are each of you
satisfied and willing to allow this project to proceed without the answers to these
questions? The present ingress/egress was designed for the current single business.
Doesn't the addition of an additional 10-12 businesses warrant the need for additional
research? I have called the city on numerous occasions through the years to report
problems with the turn signals on the existing light. I have also called DOT directly on
numerous occasions when the left turn signal into my business didn't work I have
reported to city council members on occasion when the backup on the North side of the
light went far beyond the present bowling alley ingress/egress. What can we expect
when the Deseret Industries project is ready to proceed? We hope and expect to be
around for years to come and appreciate your work as it relates to this issue as well as all
the other important projects under consideration. You perform an important but thankless
work. Thanks for your consideration of this matter.
Sincerely,
Sherwood Ricks
