R314 All smoke alarms shall be listed in accordance with UL 211 & installed in accordance with NFPA 12 -One in each sleeping area -Outside of each separate sleeping area in the immediate vicinity of the bedrooms -On each additional story including un -finish & finished basements and habitable attics but not including crawl spaces and uninhabitable attics. In dwellings or dwelling units with splits levels and without an intervening door between the adjacent levels a smoke alarm installed on the upper level shall suffice for the adjacent lower level provided that the lower level is less than one full story below the upper level. -Alarm devices shall be interconnected with battery backup that the actuation of one alarm will activate all of the alarms Carbon Monoxide Alarms 2015 IRG 5ection 106 & R315.1 New Construction an approved carbon monoxide alarm installed outside of each sleeping area in the immediate vicinity of bedroom and dwelling units.
