At present, the main route connecting the City of Rexburg with the Hidden
Valley subdivision is 1st North to Hill Road. At its east end, 1 st North turns
into Hill Road. It is here where the road also turns dangerous.
Prior to development in the area, this road was probably adequate to
accommodate the rural and limited residential vehicle traffic in the area.
With the dramatic increase in residential building in the area the vehicle
traffic has multiplied to make this a busy thoroughfare. With so many
families moving in, the pedestrian and bicycle traffic has also multiplied.
Hill road is a two-lane road at best, with no sidewalk or shoulder space for
non -vehicular traffic. The combination of high vehicular traffic with
pedestrian and bicycle traffic sharing the same roadway has created a very
dangerous environment.
PETITION
We the undersigned homeowners of the Hidden Valley subdivision and
surrounding areas, hereby request that the Rexburg City Council approve the
following plan for the construction of a jogging/bike path running along the
west and south sides of Hill Road, to connect the Hidden Valley subdivision
with 1st North, and appropriate adequate funds to pay for the application of
an asphalt mat to cover this path. This request is being made so as to
provide our children and other pedestrians with a safe walkway to the nearby
parks, elementary and high schools, public library, and other parts of the
city.
PLAN
The homeowners of the Hidden Valley subdivision agree to excavate an 8
foot pathway at their own expense, in conjunction with the Eagle Scout
service projects of Ryker Blunk and Dustin Blunk. Once this work is done
the City of Rexburg will lay a 2.5 inch mat of asphalt over the gravel base.
This project will be completed no later than September 31, 2003.
