The Water Department investigated a metering system that would allow for the ability to radio read and control the flow to each meter individually. Unfortunately, the technology for this type of application was discontinued due to lack of dependability. I met with Keith Davidson the Public Works Director to discuss the best solution for this project. First the property owner will need to provide the City access to the common mechanical room. Then the Water Dept. will insure the proper parts are provided so that individual meters with locking tabs for each meter are installed. The meters would be read by radio read and with the access to the mechanical room, could be shut down provided there is a need. This would be the City’s preference for the convenience and cost for both the City and property owner. The second option would be to remove the existing 2” meter on the east side of the building and have individual meters for each of the businesses installed. The City would not need access to the mechanical room, however it would not be as convenient and would be more costly to the owner of the building. This is not what the City would recommend. The decision to move forward in this direction would be up to the property owner. If there are other water concerns on the conversion of this building, please contact me.
