We have seven children and we moved here two years ago from Colorado to get away from their extreme, progressive laws, and diseased education system. My husband was born and raised in Idaho and we plan to remain here and raise our family. We want to commend you for the decision that you made this week NOT to make masks mandatory in Rexburg. I know there are varying views on this controversy. Depending on which media platform you follow, you receive different information, which is concerning in and of itself. We have been politically active our entire lives. We try to read, as well as watch, and we teach our children how to think, not what to think. The destruction and downfall of civilizations throughout history, is almost always a result of governments placing themselves, and being placed, "above" the people, and, "above" the law. The responsibility of a good government is to protect the people's rights, not enforce laws. Our country was founded on the two common laws, "Do not encroach on others," and, "Do all that you have agreed to do." The United States has strayed far from these fundamental principles. As a society, we have deviated from these basic, natural laws, and instead created law, rather than discovering what is naturally and inherently ours. We do not believe that the organizations and industries that are driving the COVID pandemic decisions, have our best interests at heart. The media is lying to us, many of our leaders are leading us astray, and the mask is becoming a symbol of submission. Not only is it incredibly unhealthy to wear a mask, but it has been proven, again and again, completely ineffective against this virus. We will be supporting and voting for the council members that were enlightened enough to see through the media fluff and realize what America really needs. We need to stop scrolling Facebook and Twitter, stop listening to news platforms that are bought out by people with an agenda, turn off the Bachelorette, and start using some good old-fashioned sense. Even if the virus becomes more serious by mutation, natural or manipulated, this is not how a pandemic is handled, and no pandemic has ever been dealt with in this way. We have lost our business because of the pandemic shut-downs. We have had to live on savings and create a new form of income for our family. We will support anyone who sees the rights of a people to govern themselves, as superior to being governed. There are thousands of camps with varying ideologies and there is no way to straddle every one of them. There will always be someone mad because you do not justify and encourage their decisions and beliefs. Instead, one must stand solely, and sometimes alone, on principle. We stand by those city council members who did so this week.
