Via watching your July 15 meeting online …the rushed manner in which it was proposed could be considered deceptive. Councilman Johnson did not submit this to the agenda so public awareness could be acknowledged. Was she trying to avoid counter opinion and therefore called on Rexburg citizens she knew would be in her favor to come and voice their perspective to the meeting and thus came with very one-sided viewpoints? I so appreciate the well thought out sensibilities of the council members who wanted to have time to consider the order. This is not an easy topic that should be rushed through a meeting. Not even in tonight’s meeting. There are differing views due to constantly changing statistics which work their way into the media, for instance Florida was being criticized for not having a mask mandate and then this information comes to light. ..Florida Department of Health saboteurs are RIGGING coronavirus test results, wildly inflating infection numbers. . There is no concrete evidence the masks work…much of the evidence is inconclusive… is the City of Rexburg willing to have such an over reach of authority? I see it as a violation of our personal liberties. I am very much opposed…what is next? When does the over reach stop? What if the mask wearing never goes away? The fear-mongering needs to stop. Even if the mask wearing could be proven as truly effective we should ask ourselves if we’d live in a HAZMAT suit from here to eternity to guarantee against getting the virus. Life comes with RISK. Are we willing to live in a free society with a little more risk than to live in a tyrannical one with a slightly less risk? Please reconsider this mask wearing order. We appreciate your service.
