HomeMy WebLinkAboutVote NO on mandating masksFirst of all, thank you for all you are doing. None of these decisions you have to make are easy or come without consequences in one way or another. You are in a no win situation. I was so grateful and proud when Rexburg chose to do the parade and 4th of July festivities. The fireworks were amazing and I just felt this year it meant so much more than previous years. I’m sure your getting compelling stories and information from both sides and you are truly in a no win situation. Many will not understand why being mandated to wear a mask is a big deal. Why not just do your part? It’s easy and the least you could do, right? There is no harm to you if you do. But that is not factually not true. It is so much more than that. Any search on the internet will no doubt lead you down a rabbit hole of conflicting data, experts claiming they are right and everyone else is wrong, and the horror stories of those effected by Corona, whether through illness or the unintended consequences of lock downs. There is not a soul who has not been effected in one way or another by it. Because the data is conflicting and there is credible evidence on both sides I believe it should be left up to each citizen to proceed how they best see fit for themselves, their families, their work environment, etc. The individual knows what their risks are and what risks their loved ones have. Individuals do not want to harm others and can be trusted to make the right choice for their situation without mandates. It only makes sense that individuals follow guidelines that apply to their specific situation. If an individual, loved ones, co-workers are more vulnerable and high risk then the individual should mitigate as much risk as possible. High risk people should not be working in public places. They would be perfect candidates to work from home when possible or to receive financial assistance. They should avoid exposure as much as possible through limiting their interactions with others, staying home, avoiding trips to the grocery store, etc. Those of us who do not have anyone in our lives that are high risk or are vulnerable should be allowed to proceed with our lives as we see fit and with as little intervention from the powers that be as possible. We have complied with lockdowns and social distancing and all the regulations placed on us. Trust us to make the right choice for ourselves. The right choice for me may not be the right choice for someone else. As in every other case, the responsibility to protect themselves and loved ones fall upon the individual. They can very effectively limit their risk of exposure by locking down to the extent necessary for their situation. It is entirely unnecessary to put those limitations on every single person. I not only have concerns about federal, state or local government mandates but I have very serious concerns about healthy people wearing masks. There are health risks and concerns on that side as well. I will not wear a mask because of those potential risks and concerns and a mandate won’t change that. I certainly hope you will support my well being as well. It certainly makes no sense to me why, in my attempts to protect the vulnerable, I could make myself more vulnerable. Finally, the schools are not requiring masks, although some may be asked to mask up in various situations. If the city mandates masks that complicates the schools policy. I work at Hibbard Elementary and I promise you that will cause major headaches for all involved. Many parents have already told us they will not send their children to school if masks are required and not optional. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE VOTE NO AND DO NOT MANDATE MASKS! INDIVIDUALS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR OWN HEALTH AND SHOULD ASSUME PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY BY MITIGATING EXPOSURE AND RISKS FACTORS ACCORDING TO THEIR OWN NEEDS AND THE NEEDS OF THOSE THEY ASSOCIATE WITH. WHEN IN DOUBT, ALWAYS ERROR ON THE SIDE OF PRESERVING RIGHTS AND LIBERTY. THESE ARE THE MOST SACRED GIFTS WE HAVE AS CITIZENS. PRESERVING THESE RIGHTS SHOULD BE YOUR UTMOST CONCERN. Please know that I and my family will not be able to comply with this mandate if it passes. I will not compromise my beliefs or rights. Thank you for your time and I will be praying for you to be guided in your decision making. Sent from Mail <https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=550986> for Windows 10
