Before you make your decision on the face mask mandate, I would ask that you please very seriously consider the effect that it will have on these two issues.
By making this a legal issue, there is a danger of polarizing the community or pitting neighbor against neighbor. Rather than having people embrace the principle of protecting themselves
and their neighbors against COVID-19, you run the risk of having the community no longer united but instead turn into "mask monitors", turning each other in for non compliance. This
then puts the police in a precarious position. If they are perceived to pick and choose when and where they enforce the mandate, we could see public opinion of our Force degraded. As
a community, we have a high opinion of our Police Force and it would be unfortunate to see what is happening in other areas of our country start happening here.
We appreciate all that you are doing to protect our community, but again ask that you do not make mask wearing mandatory.
