HomeMy WebLinkAboutRequire Face Masks and Online ClassesTo the Rexburg City Council,
Please make face masks mandatory unless medically exempt. At first, the
medical exemption can simply be verbally stated. Please work on a plan
to require a doctor or therapist note to be medically exempt.
Without face masks and other scientifically recommended actions, then
our COVID-19 plan is to basically get everyone sick in a controlled
manner. This is a terrible plan. It will lead to unnecessary death and
long-term health problems. My brother-in-law has been struggling
through recovery for 4 months. He is still on oxygen and cannot work for
very long. I am no lawyer but failure to take appropriate actions could
result in negligent homicide charges. A better plan is to minimize the
risk and wait for a vaccine.
Please require students to take classes online from the beginning of
this trimester. Opening schools is foolish. The students will be in
close proximity in class rooms, lunch rooms, hallways and buses. Since
the virus is airborne, the students will easily spread the virus while
speaking in theater and singing and while breathing heavily during
sports and music playing. It will be expensive or impossible to
sanitize the surfaces and air often enough. It will be impossible to
ensure social distancing and mask wearing for young students. I am no
expert but I can easily see the virus spreading rapidly within the first
few days well before any knows they are sick.
I realize there is federal money involved with opening schools. Consider
allowing students to take classes in person or online at their
guardian's discretion. Hopefully, this will satisfy the federal mandates.
