HomeMy WebLinkAboutMasks (21)I was unable to be at the city council meeting in regard to masks and the city possibly mandating the wearing of a mask.
It is a government’s responsibility to serve and protect the people that have elected said government officials in our local, state and federal government. While mask wearing seems to
be something a government should consider for the safety of it’s citizens to protect them at the same time is the potential mandate in the best interest of citizens.
Part of my choosing to not wear a mask is not due to the disrespect I have for my fellow citizens and that I hope they get sick but out of the fact that wearing a mask makes it
hard for me to see with glasses and this in turn makes it so I touch my face even more than if I hadn’t put a mask on. It also does give me headaches over time.
The mask wearing also presents a problem in restaurants in that I would need to take my mask off and then eat. I believe it is the businesses in our community to decide what is
best for their business. They know if social distancing is happening or if it is not happening. Sure we see businesses like Walmart moving to that because they feel the customers coming
in don’t social distance. However to see that our city could mandate me to be in porter park or smith park where I can reasonably social distance and then turn around and fine me is
not only concerning and disappointing but ridiculous
If such a mandate is necessary show the citizens the numbers of how Madison Memorial hospital is at capacity and we need to slow them down.
When this all started this was the concern but now it feels the concern is that we don’t ever want to get it but that wasn’t the original concern. While mask wearing may potentially
protect us from Coronavirus what about all the other illnesses people don’t get?
We are focused so much on trying to eradicate one virus that we are making ourselves eventually susceptible to other illnesses. This same logic is used with children that end up
staying home from infancy until they hit preschool. Children in this situation tend to get more sick because they haven’t been exposed to these illnesses whereas classmates that naturally
caught things don’t get as sick. Sure let’s protect the elderly if they want that protection. My mother in law from out of town refuses to frequent places requiring a mask because it
is difficult for her to use and she is elderly Some of our elderly don’t want the protection that government so desperately thinks we need. Isn’t it enough for one side to wear a mask
that desire and for those who don’t to say well it’s our own fault we caught the virus. I ask that you consider that not all of us want to wear a mask and would prefer that you leave
this up to the businesses in town and the citizens of this community to make that choice. If you want masks in city offices so be your choice but to require the entire city is not something
in the best interest of my family.
