HomeMy WebLinkAboutI do not support mandated maskHello, I was just wanting to let my voice and opinion be heard on the mandated mask issue. I am firmly 100% against the city of Rexburg and Madison County having a mask mandate, especially one that fines the people. I feel you are violating people’s constitutional rights and taking away their choice and agency if you force a mask mandate. I also feel the timing of the city is quite interesting. Why now? Why not before the 4th of July, when the city practically enjoyed the entire valley to come to the parade and rodeo since it was the only one in the whole area? It seems to me the city didn’t care about it before the 4th of July because there was money to be made for the city with al the extra people. So I think it’s quite hypocritical of the city to try and force a mask mandate now, especially considering what was allowed to happen on the 4th of July. Why wasn’t it back when things were more severe earlier? Also things weren’t meant to stop people from getting this, it was to initially slow it, not stop it. I had respect for the city for allowing the 4th of July parade and rodeo to go on. Mistakingly thinking it was because the city cared about freedom, liberty, and the constitution and that people could make the choice of whether they felt safe to attend or not. But it appears that was a big mistake to think the city cared like that. It appears that choice was all because of the revenue it would bring in. I will go else where for shopping and eating out if this passes. I will not support a city with tyrannical mandates. Let the businesses decide how they want to run their businesses. Some are already enacting required masks and that’s fine since they are private businesses and that’s within their rights. I do not feel the city should be doing this. It can recommend this, but I strongly feel it is wrong for the city to force it. I also feel it is wrong for the city to have the police ticket/fine people for not wearing a mask. That’s taking them away from their job to protect the community from CRIME. Not wearing a mask is not a crime and should not be tested as such. Don’t be a hypocritical city and force masks after inviting the whole valley to Rexburg for the 4th of July since it was pretty much the only place in the valley that had such activities. Your just showing you cared about money and not truly the people who you serve. Let the businesses decide how they want to handle masks. It’s not the city’s place to force such unconstitutional mandates. Sincerely, An extremely disappointed and concerned citizen who is concerned about the loss of freedom in my own area.....
