HomeMy WebLinkAboutNO Mask MandateDear City Council -
Word on the street is that you are considering mask mandates. This is a horrible idea under almost all circumstances. First reason, I worked with the CDC for a dozen years on anthrax
related studies. They lost a multimillion dollar study because of cross contamination because of PPE (personal protective equipment) that caused our negative controls to be positive.
These were trained first responders that allowed contamination due to their masks. You increase your risk when you touch, take off and put back on your mask, among other things.
People need to be properly trained before wearing masks could actually help. Are you providing this training? If not, you are contributing to the fact that you are increasing risk
by forcing people to wear masks and not properly training them. YOU would be responsible. I promise you - the particles do not just bounce off of masks or disappear because of masks,
they adhere. So wearers carry the particles with them on their mask, until they are ingested through the mask or disturbed, reaerosolizing the particles right in front of the mask
wearer's face, every time they remove or touch their mask. There is a reason that the CDC's first advice was wash hands and distance yourself and NOT PPEs. It wasn't until all the
pressure that the CDC caved and said wear a mask.
The second reason - you are COMPLETELY infringing on the rights of citizens. You are infringing on completely healthy people. This is a very slippery slope that you are going down.
Where do you draw the line? Do you realize that you are possibly willing to make the population do something for a threat that has not killed a single person in your county? For
a threat that has hardly put anyone in the hospital from your county? There are plenty of other threats out there with bigger risks, are those your next target? Which freedoms do
you remove so that you can save us next time? This threat is ABSOLUTELY not enough to start infringing on people's rights.
The third reason - your days of service may be numbered. Just walk thru Walmart and you will see a huge majority not believing masks to be a good decision. If you mandate them, you
will upset them. Personally, I will work hard to make sure that we elect people that respect individual freedom and reasonable laws. I know how to do this - in my previous community
I held an elected office and I worked on other campaigns helping them to be elected. There will be an incumbent backlash from this, I saw this in my previous community.
Please support personal freedom and do not consider this mandate. Feel free to encourage mask wearing, but even if you do this, please be responsible and offer the proper training.
If you don't offer training but encourage wearing masks you are responsible for the reaerosolization that will occur when the mask is touched and removed, resulting in the increase
of risk.
Thank you,
Brett Amidan
