I'm writing to express my support for the proposed ordinance requiring facemasks in Rexburg's indoor spaces. The science on this is solid. Facemasks will lessen the spread of COVID-19.
They will save lives and make it far more likely that our children get to enjoy a school year in the classroom.
When BYU-I students return in a few months, they will be coming from all across the country. Requiring facemasks will ensure the safety of everyone during this large influx of students.
Furthermore, requiring facemasks is not an affront to liberty as some claim. Businesses are subject to inspections and other health regulations. Requiring facemasks in a time of pandemic
seems a thoughtful, reasonable way to support public safety and to protect our most vulnerable.
