HomeMy WebLinkAboutPlease require face masks I have observed that sometimes the virulent American anti-government individualism which has served this country and its citizens well in certain historical contexts is a hindrance in other contexts. More than people in many other countries, some Americans reflexively bristle at any perceived loss of “personal freedom,” but in the current COVID-19 social distancing, self-isolation mask-wearing context, that “loss” has behind it both a strong moral imperative (to save lives) and a clear scientific foundation (epidemiology). Like it or not, a pandemic is a problem with a collective (not individual) solution. To illustrate my point about “freedom,” study the graph/timeline at the link below. The Idaho Governor’s “opening” decision was taken in part due to public pressure – Idahoans don’t like to be told what to do. Look at the increase in cases once re-opening started. https://coronavirus.jhu.edu/data/state-timeline/new-confirmed-cases/idaho/37 <https://coronavirus.jhu.edu/data/state-timeline/new-confirmed-cases/idaho/37> -- Please require face masks David Nathan Campbell
