Design Review Committee Meeting
#11 00330 – Blue Water Days Apts.
April 3, 2012 – 12:45 pm
Attendees
Design Review Committee: Thaine Robinson and Rod Jones
(Bruce Sutherland not able to attend)
Applicant: Jared Sommer, Dean Green
Staff: Natalie Powell, Amanda Saurey, Elaine McFerrin, Community Development Intern Craig Fisher
The Design Review Committee meets if there is a development issue that deviates from the design
standards stated in the City of Rexburg Development Code #1026. This meeting gives the opportunity to
examine the issues. The committee is made up of a P&Z Commissioner, a City Council member, and a
professional from the community. Council Member Bruce Sutherland was ill and not able to attend this
meeting.
The issue of today’s meeting is addressing the rear elevation of the northernmost Blue Water Days building.
The rear elevation is visible as one travels on South 4th West (Eyes to the Street”). This building needs to have
its rear elevations broken up, in order to meet the design standards requirements.
The building has the canal on two sides and is near the railroad tracks.
There was discussion on the possible use of shutters and landscaping to break up the rear elevation.
The 2 Design Review Committee members present and the applicant agreed that on the rear elevation of the
northernmost building, shutters will be added to windows on the 2 sides with horizontal siding (six windows
on each side). Three or more evergreens with a nine foot height minimum will be added along this elevation.
The plans were redlined by Dean Green to reflect these decisions.
A Council member will review the redlined plans, in order that there is consensus of the three Design Review
Committee members on these conclusions. (On April 4, 2012, Council Members Donna Benfield and Sally
Smith reviewed the redlined plans and agreed with the decisions made at the Design review meeting.)
