HomeMy WebLinkAboutWRITTEN RESPONSE - Raymond Hill - 338 E Main - CUP for couples apartment; duplex37 South Third East Rexburg, ID 83440 June 29, 2002 Winston Dyer, Chairman Rexburg Planning and Zoning Commission City of Rexburg 12 N. Center St. Rexburg, ID 83440 Dear Mr. Dyer and commission members, We are writing to you about a proposal by our neighbor Raymond Hill to obtain a conditional use permit on property at 338 East Main Street belonging to his aunt, Alta Hill. Unfortunately, we will be out of town, so we ask that you please submit this as testimony at the July 18 hearing. My wife and I are in favor of the Hill's request for this conditional use permit so they can build an apartment in this house. It is our understanding that they are doing this to protect their own property, as well as the rest of the neighborhood, from its possible use as professional offices or parking lots if someone else were to purchase this property. Raymond says that using the home as rental property is the only way they can afford to purchase this land. While we are not in favor of granting such conditional use permits in every case within our neighborhood, Mr. Hill has a very legitimate concern. The land in question is already located next to a medical office and could be a logical step for expansion by someone in the medical community. It is unfortunate that the Hills cannot depend upon the present residential zoning designation to protect themselves from future professional offices and they have to resort to purchasing the land themselves. Once again, we would like to thank the members of the Planning and Zoning Commission for your efforts to protect our neighborhood from future professional office development.
