HomeMy WebLinkAboutWRITTEN RESPONSE - Tom Croasmun - 458 Yale - CUP for basement apartmentPlanning and Zoning Commission Rexburg, Idaho Subject: Apartment Permit 458 Yale Ave. Lot 12, Block 2 Sherwood Hills Subdivision First of all let me say that we have love and great regard for our neighbors the Croasmans. But I guess we don't see eye to eye on this particular subject. We did not raise this issue but since it was brought to us, we will make a statement about what we think. We do not agree with apartments being put into private homes in our subdivision. We feel that it devalues our homes and makes them less desirable for selling, as well as for living in the area. The extra people and vehicles cause confusion in a quiet area. The cars are often in the way of snow plows or street cleaning equipment, thus leaving areas that are unattended as they have to pull around them. It also looks unsightly to have vehicles parked all around and often even on the sidewalks. We have enough apartments already in this area and we would object to anymore. The more that are allowed in this area, the easier it is for someone else to follow with the same idea. There should be residential areas that are for single family dwellings only. And this should he one of them. The homes are fairly new and very nice and should we want to sell at some point we want to get top dollar, which will be hard to do if we have spotty areas. We appeal to the zoning committee to protect the development of Rexburg. We are in a great growth period and we need to be very careful and firm with planning now so that we will have well-developed neighborhoods and not end up in a situation that will be hard to live with. Let us keep our residential and our commercial development separate from each other. Question: Do we get enough revenue from rentals in private homes to account for the extra services the city provides, such as garbage, streets, police control, traffic congestion, and other pertinent needs? We shouldn't pick just this one case but be consistent with the rules and make them apply to everyone. Maybe we need to make some amendments if that is possible. We appreciate the work you do and hope you will take our feelings into account as you make important decisions. Thank you, Elaine and Jerry Hilton Property owners. 505 S.
