* Per IBC, in addition to the stair identification sign, a floor level sign shall be
adjacent to the door (raised characters and braille). The commentary says such
signs are in a consistent location to be useful. A117.1 says they are to be
"alongside" the door. Nothing I found restricts using the stair identification sign
for the floor level sign also. All location and height requirements must be met.
The baseline of braille and raised characters shall be between 48" and 60" above
floor. To be alongside door I will accept signs within 12" from door jamb. (2012
IBC sect. 1022.9 & A117.1 sect. 703)

* A floor level sign shall be "alongside" the door going into corridor. I met with
the sign installer and we observed only the first level sign in east stair. With the
locating method described to me we agreed the location of that sign would work.
Other sign locations were to be verified before re-inspection, but ALL others were
found to be just beyond reach using the same method during inspection, and
should be re-located closer to door.
