The language included in the 2012 IBC requires that the combination of roof mounted solar modules and racking components is to be considered a system (IBC Section 1509.7.2). Additionally, it requires that this system shall meet or exceed the fire classifica- tion of the roof assembly. The objective is to ensure that the PV system does not adversely affect the fire rating of the roof. Roof sur- face fire ratings are classified either A, B, or C; Class A being the most resistant to the spread of flame. Since the physical characteristics of the PV module (material, thickness of glass, etc) also potentially af- fect how a fire will act, modules are now tested and assigned a “type” based upon these characteristics and spread of flame test results. There are 15 total module types, Types 1, 2 and 3 represent dif- ferences in the module composition and Types 4 – 15 are the same module compositions as Types 1 – 3 with differing fire test performance. SnapNrack Series 100 has been Certified for a Class A fire rating with Type 1 and Type 2 modules, in accordance with the standards set forth in UL1703/2703 and IBC 2012. In or- der to maintain this classification, the SnapNrack mounting system must be installed per the UL-approved Installation Manual. Because the test was conducted with the modules at 5 inches from the roof surface (worst case scenario), there is no restriction to the standoff height. Attachment 1 is the SnapNrack QIMS File which is accessed through the UL Online Certifica- tion Directory, or available here: SnapNrack QIMS File. The full SnapNrack Series 100 UL Test Report is available by sending requests to appeng@snapnrack.com. Ensure the lag or self-drilling screws will be installed in a solid portion of the roof framing member. If the roof framing member is not found then seal the pilot hole immediately with roofing sealant. Install Note: If using an impact driver, finish tightening lag screw with a hand wrench. Best Practice: Ensure area is free from metal shavings and debris before installing Metal Roof Base. Metal roofs with excessive debris, corrosion, or non- factory coating should be evaluated for adequate sealing surface. Additional roof sealant not required but can be applied after tightening the Metal Roof Base to roof, if desired. Install Note: Take care to ensure the base does not twist when cap is tightened. Install Note: Finish tightening hardware with a hand wrench to prevent L Foot from rotating. Copper Conductors. Color-Coded Jacket. Four Conductor Available With Two Neutrals. APPLICATIONS Southwire's Romex ® Type NM-B (nonmetallic-sheathed cable) may be used for both exposed and concealed work in normally dry locations at temperatures not to exceed 90°C (with ampacity limited to that for 60°C conductors) as specified in the National Electrical Code 1 . NM-B cable is primarily used in residential wiring as branch circuits for outlets, switches, and other loads. NM-B cable may be run in air voids of masonry block or tile walls where such walls are not subject to excessive moisture or dampness. Voltage rating for NM-B cable is 600 volts. SPECIFICATIONS Southwire's Romex® Type NM-B cable meets or exceeds UL Standard 83, UL Standard 719, Federal Specification A-A-59544, and requirements of the National Electrical Code. CONSTRUCTION Southwire's Romex® Type NM-B cable is manufactured as 2, 3, or 4 conductor cable, with a ground wire. Copper conductors are annealed (soft) copper. Stranded conductors are compressed stranded. Conductor insulation is 90°C-rated polyvinyl chloride (PVC), nylon jacketed. The cable jacket is color-coded for quick size identification; White - 14 AWG, Yellow - 12 AWG, Orange - 10 AWG, and Black - 8 AWG and 6 AWG. 1 2002 Edition .
