I began by observing the welds for the vertical welds on the six columns. I observed that the vertical welds appeared to be sound and had good penetration to the material below. I observed that the welds were free from porosity and inclusions on the surface of the welds. I also observed that the contractor was finishing up with welding the bridging on the joists. I then went onto the roof to observe the welds on the decking to the joists. I observed that the contractor had only welded the long ends of the decking. I double checked the project documents and observed that the plans called for a 36/7 puddle weld schedule. I notified the contractor that they were missing welds in the field of each of the deck panels and that the seams needed to be button punched and that the welds along the edges needed to be 6" OC. I notified the contractor of these things and to call when they are completed.
