Happy November everyone! There are many exciting things happening in Rexburg this month. First
of all, Congratulations to all the fall sports teams from Madison High. Each team has competed well,
especially the Lady Bobcat Volleyball team who won the State Championship and capped that off
with the Sportsmanship trophy too. Way to go girls…that is very awesome! As of this writing, our
football team is heading for a playoff game in Boise. Hopefully, I will be able to report another State
Championship next month.
The Chamber of Commerce will be hosting their annual Veteran's appreciation program on Friday,
Nov. 9th since Veteran's Day falls on a Sunday this year. That event will be held at Madison High
School at 10 am. Please join us in honoring those who have sacrificed much in serving our great na-
tion.
Our very own Rexburg Tabernacle Orchestra will be performing their always inspiring Fall Concert in
the Tabernacle on Nov. 3rd at 7:30 pm and the Turkey Choir will perform their annual Thanksgiving
Concert on Nov. 22 at 10 am. These are both "all volunteer" performing groups and they always do a
marvelous job. Please bring your family and enjoy.
Finally, we will continue with our 3rd Annual Christmas Tree Festival on Monday, November 26th
and Friday, November 30th at the Romance Theater. There will be a decorated Christmas Tree silent
auction, a chance to meet and greet Santa at the "North Pole" and many other fun activities. I know
many of you have been to the myriad of Fall/Halloween Spook Alley's, Mazes and other Fall Festival
type activities. There is certainly no shortage of things to do around Rexburg this time of year.
Thanks to all of those who make all these great family activities happen.
I would like to take a moment in each message to spotlight our different city departments and help
everyone understand what they do for all of us. Many of our Team Members work "behind the
scenes" and don't get much attention. Such is the case of our Public Works people. They keep our
water clean and flowing, keep our sewage going the right direction, keep our streets repaired and
plowed, keep our garbage picked up and taken care of and the Engineering group draws up the plans
and oversees all the construction projects that happen here in the city. These folks are a crucial part
of our everyday lives and are taken for granted until something goes haywire…then we realize how
important they really are. So thank you, Public Works Team Members, for all you do to keep Rexburg
running smoothly each day!
I'd like to also acknowledge the passing of our long time Team Member and Friend, John Millar. He
did a lot for our city and we relied on his knowledge and expertise for many years. We miss him and
wish the best of memories for his dear wife Jean and the Millar family.
I wish each of you a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday with your families.
Best Regards, Mayor Jerry Merrill Life is Great…..in Rexburg, Idaho!!!
