Happy St.Patricks
Day
Happy March Everyone! This is an exciting time of the year here in Rexburg. We have the beginnings of
March Madness in a lot of different ways besides basketball. Our Madison High Wrestling team had a great
year, producing our first State Champion (Tyrel Clark) in quite a few years as well as 2nd and 3rd place finish-
ers. We look for great things from the Wrestlers in years to come. Our Girls’ Basketball team represented us
well through their season and the Debate team won the District and is sending 11 squad members to the
National Tournament in June. The Cheer Squad qualified for State in all four categories and the Boys’ Basket-
ball team won the district (against all odds) and is headed for Boise as I write this. Best of luck to both teams
and the Fans as we vie for another Sportsmanship trophy!! Another thing for us to be even more proud of….
both the Boys Basketball team and the Cheer Squad won the State Academic Championship. Congratulations
to all the team members and Coaches for your successes, and thank you for representing our community so
well! We have so many exceptional students … I hope I didn’t leave anyone out. If so, let me know and I will
brag about them next month!
Last night I attended the Rexburg Tabernacle Orchestra’s winter concert. Wow… that was pretty amazing.
We have some very talented people here! Rick Hansen was the Guest Conductor which was very fitting to
honor him for all the wonderful work he has done with our children in the Madison Orchestra program. His
son, Dallin was the featured Violinist and 2 more of his boys were also in the Orchestra. We are so lucky to
have such a talented family as well as all of the Orchestra Members and Arts Council people who make such
great performances available to us. Thank you all, it really does lift my spirit to listen to such wonderful mu-
sic. If you missed the concert, please go to my Facebook page (the one with the Green Bay Packers parapher-
nalia) and check out the clip that is there. The next concert will be held May 2nd. You’ll be well rewarded if
you attend!
Speaking of concerts, I was also able to attend the Madison High School Choir and Orchestra concert with
George Dyer, a professional entertainer from Branson, Missouri. That was awesome!! It was so great to see
our students do so well and get that experience of performing with a professional. He sang with accompani-
ment from our kids and sang a couple duets with John Zenger and Haley Hansen that literally brought tears
to my eyes, so powerful! It was a marvelous evening. A big THANK YOU to Council Member and Ass’t. Princi-
pal Jordan Busby for organizing and working his tail off to make that happen every year.
Yes, a bunch of exciting things this month. One thing for me that was a shock and not so exciting, was that I
got the news that one of my Ricks College classmates had a heart attack and passed away recently. My wife
and I attended his funeral in Willard, Utah. Barney Barnett was a wonderful person who made everyone feel
as though they were his best friend and he was always interested in what was going on your life. He is an
inspiration to me to try and be better every day. One of the experiences related was that he felt bad because
he and his friends teased another boy in his scout troop when he was a young teenager. I’m sure many of us
can relate to that. To this day, it still anguished his soul, so he made a conscious decision to always give any-
one his full attention and respect, no matter how different or strange or weird or normal they may seem to
be. He made a wooden plaque that hung above the doorway of his nursery business there in Willard. It
reads, “Our greatest blessing is to receive God’s love …. Our greatest privilege is to give it away to others!”
I hope each of us can take that saying to heart. I think that is one of the best things we can do to prevent
such horrible things from happening as happened in Parkland, FL recently. Let’s make Rexburg a safe haven
and show love and respect to everyone. Thank you!

The Museum of Rexburg is looking for volunteers
Our volunteers’ time and talents are vital to the success of
the museum. If you are age 16 or older, have some free time
during a week day or weekend day, and are looking for a re-
warding, enriching experience, then volunteering at the Mu-
seum may be for you.
Museum volunteers bring skills, life-experience, and energy
to supporting the Museum's mission and the work of our
staff as they donate their time. The weekly hourly commit-
ment varies per position, but most volunteers commit an
average of two hours per week.
