Dear Rexburg Residents,
Thank you for being the wonderful people you are. I often get asked how I am liking serving
as Mayor and the honest answer is, "I love it!" There's no better place to be in public ser-
vice. I use the tag line, "Life is Great....in REXBURG, Idaho!!!", after my signature in all my e
-mails to promote our city because that is truly how I feel. There are always things to im-
prove on and we recognize that and are always working on those things but overall I hope
you agree that we have a wonderful family community here.
Marianne and I attended the Madison High School graduation ceremony last week and
Wow!, what an amazing group of students! They blew away the averages for dollar amount
of college scholarships earned and many other categories. They achieved SIX state aca-
demic championships in just one year. That is amazing! To me that proves the good things
that can happen when we have great teachers and supportive parents that work together to
help our kids learn and grow. Our District Administration also deserves a big thank you for
leading the way in proposing and getting good facilities built that promote a very good edu-
cational experience for our kids. And an even bigger thank you to each of you who support
our schools in financial and many other ways!
I had the pleasure of opening the Summer Carousel Kickoff last Friday evening. We had a
huge turnout of families there to ride the carousel and enjoy the spray park and other games
and activities available to them. Thank you to the Good Times Rental Company for being
our major sponsor for that event. We also had a Grand Opening of our brand, spankin' new
PICKLEBALL courts at Nature Park. Pickleball is a very popular sport for people of all ages.
I even got out there and played a few games, got some needed exercise and had a great
time. Thank you to our Parks, Recreation and Public Works departments and local residents
Kevin and Teresa Kimball for collaborating to help these courts become a reality. The pur-
pose of these courts is to provide a place for people to get together and socialize and have
a good time together as well as get some good exercise so we can be a healthier popula-
tion. Come join us and have some fun!
We have so many things going on this summer in Rexburg, great activities to bring your
family and enjoy. Please check our Rexburg.org website to find out more about things to do.
From the Teton Dam Marathon to the Whoopee Days events, the International Music and
Dance Summerfest to the Storytelling and Art Festival and so many more events, this will be
a great summer for creating family memories in Rexburg. Please invite your family and
friends from other places to come share these good times with us!
Marianne and I were sitting next to a young man from Salt Lake City yesterday. He is in the
Air Force and was returning back to duty after spending a week of leave home with his
young family. He has a wife and a two year old son as well as a two week old daughter who
he just met while home. We asked how he liked being in the service and said he likes it oth-
er than having to be away from his family so much. He had served a tour in Iraq and now is
trained in firefighting and based in Texas. As he talked about how hard it was to leave his
little boy and his wife and new baby, I felt such an appreciation for him AND his wife who
holds down the fort while he is away. I know there are many such families in this great coun-
try who make similar sacrifices. I hope that if you know of a military family, you will help sup-
port them and express thanks to them for their sacrifice to keep us a free nation. We just
visited the graveyards of our family members who have passed on and it always fills me
with appreciation to those who served us when I see the flags by the graves of all our mili-
tary heroes. GOD BLESS EACH OF YOU AND GOD BLESS AMERICA!!
