I must be getting old because they say, “the older you get, the faster time goes by”. It seems crazy that we are in August already. Wow, where did the summer go? The good news is…FOOTBALL SEA- SON is just around the corner! I hope you all plan to support the Madison High student athletes, the band, cheerleaders and all the other activities that happen when school gets rolling later this month. I’m personally inviting you to attend our Tailgate Parties that we hold at 6 pm before each home football game right there at Bobcat Stadium. We furnish a grill to cook on, so bring your own burgers and a side dish to share and have a great time with us. It’s wonderful to get out and be in- volved in the community! Don’t forget about the Madison County Fair coming up soon and our Teton Storytelling and Arts Festival will be part of that on Friday and Saturday nights at the Romance Theater on Main Street and a Sacred Stories event on Sunday in the Tabernacle Civic Center. These are great family activi- ties for all to enjoy. Watch the news for more information about these events. I’ve been concerned and thinking lately about Safety for all our citizens. That's a giant subject to tackle but with all of the shootings, suicides and other traumatic events happening, how do we pre- vent such horrible occurrences? I know our school district officials, our police and emergency ser- vices personnel and all the good folks at Madison Cares are working to help stop these things from happening, but how do we, the parents of "America's Family Community" prevent these things from taking place in our families and community? A thought came to me as I was reading in the scriptures a few days ago. It's nothing earth shattering, as solutions usually are…..in fact it's a very basic princi- pal. These several passages jumped out to me…."as ye have come to the knowledge of the glory of God"….."and always retain in remembrance the greatness of God"….."calling on the name of the Lord daily and standing steadfastly in the faith"….."if ye do this, ye will be filled with the love of God"….."And ye will not have a mind to injure one another, but to live peaceably and to render to every man according to that which is his due". "And ye will not suffer your children that they go hungry or naked; neither will ye suffer that they transgress the laws of God, and fight and quarrel one with another"….."ye will teach them to love one another and to serve one another". As I read those passages, I felt a strong impression that we all need to focus on being grateful to God for all that we are blessed with in this wonderful community and teach our children and grand- children to recognize where all this good comes from. I believe if we do that faithfully and consist- ently, we will have fewer problems because we truly …”will not have a mind to injure one another, but to live peaceably…”. Loving and serving one another is the key and I thank you so much for all of the service that each of you do in Rexburg. Please continue on and help us keep Rexburg the wonderful place that it is.
