Teton Storytelling & Arts Festival Aug 17th, 18th, and 19th Spring Clean Up– April 9th— May 7th. SAVE THE DATE FOR THE ANNUAL EXPERIENCE REXBURG : Septem- ber 22, 2018!! Mark your calendar!! Arts & Rec Guide- rexburg.org/rec I love Springtime! The days are getting longer, the sun is shining more. Hopefully the flooding will stop wash- ing out the roads around us and we can concentrate on all the flowering bulbs awakening and the trees, shrubs and lawns starting to green up. Spring is a time of renewal, of all things starting up again. Easter will be over by the time you read this so I hope you had some time with your family to celebrate the resurrection of our Savior and possibly participate in an Easter Egg Hunt with the kids or other traditions you might have. Thanks so much to the Kiwanis Club (a local service club) and our Chamber of Commerce for sponsoring and working hard to put on the annual Easter Egg Hunt at Porter Park. These folks work hard planning, getting sponsors and actually getting all the preparations done for the big event that lasts all of 1 minute or so! Thanks also to all of the sponsors and the Development Workshop folks for stuffing 18,000 eggs! This is the value of volunteer organizations in our community. If you own a business, I would certainly en- courage you to join our local Chamber of Commerce….the community would not be near the same without them and they need all of your support! The Chamber runs the Whoopee Days festivities, the Summer Fest Dance and Music Festival, the Farmer/Merchant Banquet honoring many of our great local citizens each year as well as many other events and activities. If you are interested in being of service to the community but don’t own a business, the Kiwanis or many of our other local service clubs would welcome you as well. They perform many projects for our community such as cleaning up trash along the highway into town, helping with our parks, providing scholarships to local students and a host of other awesome projects that benefit all of us. Please join one of these clubs and lend a helping hand. Speaking of service, Our Mayor’s Youth Advisory Board along with our Beautification Committee and our Parks Department will be holding our annual “Rexburg Day” on Wednesday May 16 th from 4-6:30 pm. We will be planting the flower beds all along Main Street and the new planter boxes on Center Street so please bring your kids, grandkids, Scouts, etc. and help us out. You will be amazed at how much more interested your kids will be in how our city looks and how they want to take good care of things if you come as a family and participate with us. It will be fun!! I’m seeing the Tulips and Daffodils starting to peek their noses out of the ground in the Center Street plant- ers and I’m excited to see that colorful display as they grow and develop. We are planning a Cinco de Mayo celebration at the gathering spot there on Center Street so be sure to put that on your calendar as well. (May 5th of course!) In closing, I saw a quote recently that I’ve adopted…it says, “I am thankful for the people I have found.” That sums up my feelings for you, the great people of Rexburg, You are the “people that I have found” and I am sincerely grateful to serve you as your Mayor. Thank you.
