I love the Fall season….cool nights, mostly warm days, generally less wind and my most favorite thing of all….high school football!! I’ve always loved football from idolizing Bart Starr, Paul Hornung, Ray Nitzche and the rest of the Green Bay Packers of my youth up to Brett Favre and now Aaron Rodgers and the rest of THE PACK currently. I played football at Snake River High School and in my memory I was a really good player …not sure what everyone else’s memory is, but that’s what I hold on to. Our kids here at Madison High, not only foot- ball but the volleyball, cross country and soccer teams are all doing very well to represent us. We already have two Academic State Champions in our football and girls cross country teams. Congratulations to them on that outstanding achievement! Please get out and support our teams as much as you possibly can. These kids are all working hard and they need to be recognized for the good things they are striving for, win OR lose! Let ’s all re- member that we as the adults need to set a good example of Sportsmanship by cheering hard for our teams, not booing the other team or yelling at the Referees (OK, I ’ll admit, I need to work on that one. I will and I hope you will too.) We really need to teach our kids to support the Coaches, the Game Officials and especially each other. That’s what team sports is all about and they can learn very important life skills if taught correctly. Shifting gears….it’s funny how our Father in Heaven knows what we are going through. I was feeling a little down about certain things the other day…a pending lawsuit against the city that I feel very sorry about and some neighborhood disputes that have been going on …and then yesterday I received the following letter in the mail: Thank you so much Rhaine for this letter, it made my whole week!! Rexburg IS a wonderful place. Thank you all for allowing me to serve as your Mayor. I truly love this city and pledge my all to make it the best place possible.
