Hello Everyone,
I hope you have had an opportunity to spend time with friends and family celebrating this great land we
live in. I watched a movie recently about a troop of valiant soldiers fighting to help the people of Af-
ghanistan. It sure brought home to me the courage and valor of our military men and women. I appreci-
ate them so much as well as their families who sacrifice so much when their loved ones are deployed for
months in harms' way. Please take opportunities, especially during this Independence Day season, to
thank and help them as much as possible.
Our Legacy Flight Museum Air Show went well. Thanks to John Bagley and the Flight Museum crew
and all of the wonderful volunteers that helped make it happen. All I can say after watching those aero-
batic pilots is "Wow, that is crazy amazing!" and our pilots flying the old Warbirds were very impressive
too. If you missed it, hopefully you can catch it in a couple years.
Don't miss St. Anthony's Pioneer Day Parade. I've always enjoyed the quality of the floats done by
wards, stakes and businesses. The warm days of summer are so much fun to get out and enjoy the beauti-
ful outdoors that we live in and around. I hope you have a chance to explore all the very cool places you
can access from Rexburg. If you don't know about all these places, stop by the Chamber of Commerce
office on East Main Street and pick up a guide that gives details about exciting places to visit and fun
things to do.
Please bear with us during all the street construction this summer. We are replacing old water lines all
over the city and it is a bit inconvenient at times, but please remember, this will prevent problems with
old pipes breaking and causing sink holes or flooding of homes. I promise, it will be worth it. Hang
Tough!
The new Wastewater Treatment Plant is coming along on schedule and we hope to have it up and run-
ning later this fall. This will be a big improvement and should save us money as we grow in population
and have to process more and more material.
Please be careful as you travel the freeway south of town. It is easy to get distracted by all that is going on
and it only takes a second to get into trouble. It will be nice and much safer to have that done, but in the
meantime, make sure you don't become a statistic.
Our International Summer Fest is coming up also in a couple weeks so that gives us more fun and excit-
ing things to do this month. Call the Chamber Office if you'd like to host a family, they will help hook
you up for a wonderful experience with our guests from around the world.
Finally, as I close out the first 6 months of my term as Mayor, Thank you so much for the kindness you
have shown me. I have adopted a new motto and it goes: " Life is Great…in Rexburg ID!!". I hope you
feel that way too!
Warm Regards,
Jerry Merrill
