Well, it’s over.
Well, almost, but by the time you read this letter, it will be. My last official act is to
swear in two new City of Rexburg officials. This will take place Wednesday, Janu-
ary 6th, as part of our regular City Council meeting. Those beginning new roles as
public servants are, Jerry Merrill as Mayor, and Tisha Flora as Jerry’s replacement
on the City Council. These are good, dedicated people. They study the issues and I
believe that the concerns of the people will be met as best they can. I know that
their goal is to provide for fair, informed and thoughtful consideration that will
best serve the needs of Rexburg’s future.
The City is in good hands. We are in the middle of this year’s audit. We are finan-
cially strong. The Waste Water Treatment Facility is moving forward. We will be
way ahead of needs. Envision Madison was a great success. It has fostered a great
deal of planning for our future and has saved the City of Rexburg a great deal of
money.
What about this “old dog”? Well, all things must end in time. It is time. Will I miss
it? Yes, I will! I will miss the good people of Rexburg. What will I miss most? I
will miss the people that I have served with. We are blessed with great volunteer
organizations that take care of a variety of concerns. These are people who care
deeply about Rexburg. They care about Rexburg’s past, the present, and the future.
I salute you and thank you for your dedication. I will miss Roger and Gwyn Har-
ris. They have given so much to the arts. Roger is a friend to me and a friend to
Rexburg. Are there others? Yes, too many to mention them all. I want to thank all
of you! I want to thank you for your dedication, for your concerns for others, and
for your willingness to put up with me for the last six years as your Mayor. It has
been a pleasure and now there is that sense of loss, the pain of separation from
those we have grown to love. Yes, I will miss the close association here at City
Hall. I have been blessed to work for and with you. Farewell!
-Richard S. Woodland
P.S. My wife, Lori, without whom I couldn’t have done any of this, and I will be
serving an LDS mission in the Morristown, New Jersey Mission. We leave on the
17th of January. Thanks, again, to you all! I will miss you all!

The Teton Flood Museum is looking for volunteers
Our volunteers’ time and talent are vital to the success of
the museum. If you are college-age or older, have some
free time during a week day or weekend day, and are look-
ing for a rewarding, enriching experience, then volunteer-
ing at the Museum may be for you.
Museum volunteers bring skills, life-experience, and ener-
gy to supporting the Museum's mission and the work of
our staff as they donate their time. The weekly hourly
commitment varies per position, but most volunteers
commit an average of two to six hours per week.
For more information please contact our Museum Cura-
tor, Jackie Rawlins at jackie.rawlins@rexburg.org
