Hello Everyone,
As I write this message I sincerely hope that each of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving
holiday time with your families. I am so thankful and so blessed to be part of the family
I have. My Dad just passed away last night and luckily I happened to be there by his
side when he took his last breath. What a sacred and spiritual experience that was to
share with my 2 living sisters, my brother in law and some nieces and nephews. I am
sure there is a big welcome party going on in heaven this morning. It would be fun to
be there to witness that event! How grateful I am for the life that he led and the exam-
ple he was to me. As I reflect on the holiday season, it's interesting that Thanksgiving is
just a few weeks before Christmas. I like to think that it was inspired to be that way so
that we can prepare our hearts and minds with thankfulness for what is next. The
Christmas holidays to me are all about love, kindness and service to those we know and
even many that we don't know. I am a member of the Rexburg Kiwanis Club and each
of our members volunteers to take a turn ringing the bell for a couple hours each year
for the Salvation Army. At first I thought doing that would be something to
dread….being out there in the cold for 2 hours ringing that bell and kind of begging
people for money. I now look forward to my time there…I found that if I have the
right attitude, if I'm cheerful and happy, most people want to pitch in to help those that
are less fortunate. I'm always inspired and amazed that even the folks who may not have
as much as others are so willing to give of the little they have left over from their shop-
ping...a few dollar bills or even leftover change from their pocket. I love the little kids
with their eyes full of excitement and a big smile on their face as they come over to
drop some pennies, nickels, dimes or quarters into the can. I just want to pick them up
and give them a big squeeze. I hope that all of us, as we go out to do our shopping will
purposely carry a few extra dollar bills and instead of avoiding the bell ringers, make a
beeline to them, thank them for their service and drop what you can into the kettles as
well as look for other opportunities to be of service. This is the perfect time of year to
teach our children what the Christmas season is all about and the real reason we cele-
brate it.
Thank you for all you do to make Rexburg such a wonderful place to live and raise a
family. I love this city and love serving you as we work together to make it even better.
Have a very Merry Christmas!!

Garbage Pick up days for December Holidays
Commercial Garbage pick up:
Garbage will be picked up on Tuesday December 27th.
Garbage for New Years will be picked up on Tuesday
Jan 3rd.
The Shop with a Cop program joins
children who are in need with local
law enforcement officers, providing
the children with money to shop for
Christmas presents for their families
and themselves. The program is
funded completely from donations.
Underprivileged children who partici-
pate in the program are chosen by
law enforcement officers.
Children and officers meet the morning of Shop with a
Cop where they travel together in a law enforcement vehi-
cle, with lights and siren. First they enjoy a breakfast do-
nated by McDonalds and then go to Walmart to shop.
Not only do the children get a chance to purchase Christ-
mas presents that they otherwise would not be able to buy,
but they also get a chance to build a positive relationship
with law enforcement.
Donations to the program can be made at the
Rexburg Police Department
