Happy Halloween
As of this writing, it is still raining! Hopefully, by the time you receive this message, farmers
will be digging spuds. This has been a very unusual year for our area and possibly disastrous,
financially, to area farmers. We should pray for them.
The City of Rexburg is doing well. The measures taken in the last months have been effective
in controlling run-off water and in the protection of our wastewater treatment facility.
The City Parks are being put to bed for the winter and I would like to thank our parks depart-
ment for their excellent service. The tennis court at Porter Park is being refurbished, weather
permitting. There will soon be a parking lot at Evergreen Park. It seems that there is so much
to be done as winter approaches. There are improvements being made at the Romance Thea-
ter and most of the changes will be finished as we move into the opening of the Rexburg Arts
Council’s Fall Season. The Romance Theater is gearing up for another season of classic and
family friendly movies. Shows are every Wednesday evening starting at 7:00. I am told that
admission to these movies is only 50¢. Now that’s a bargain.
The City appreciates all the hard work that community members have shown in their participa-
tion with the arts. Particular thanks needs to be given to the Rexburg Community Theatre
who have again arranged to perform “A Christmas Carol”. Also, this month on October 17, 18
and 20, the Arts Council will present “Oh What a Night!”, a collection of popular performances
from Broadway and Hollywood. Some of our local celebrities – Missy Babcock, Jake Cham-
berlin, and Preston Pugmire, to name a few, will perform with other talented singers to help
raise money for the continued restoration of the Romance Theater. I am very impressed with
the amount of talent that we have in our small city and encourage you to come support the arts
this fall.
I also want to thank the Recreation Department, as they have accepted to take over the annual
River Rock Youth Triathlon. After five years of putting on this event, the non-profit organiza-
tion, Life Active has turned this event over to the city to ensure its continuation. Life Active
has not only done a marvelous job of putting on this event, but has also given away thousands
of dollars to youth in our area to participate in athletic activities.
