morial Day
I visited the other day at City Hall with Bernie Jensen, a Rexburg, Ricks College, BYU-Idaho
fixture, if there ever was one. He is a delightful person. He personifies what a professor ought
to be. Always caring for his students, neighbors, and ever being a mentor, and a friend. He
taught for over forty years. He and his lovely wife Carol lived together many years in a beauti-
ful home behind the 4th ward meeting house. They opened their home and brought joy and
awe every Christmas to countless people who came by to see the incredible decorations in their
home. They gave a gift to others.
There are many people who have influenced and had an effect on my life. Bernie Jensen is one
such man. I think also of the Hepworth boys. They were some of the first people to befriend
Lori and me when we moved here so many years ago. Their friendship was and is extended to
all they come in contact with. They are constantly helping others less fortunate than them-
selves. Many of those seem to be the downtrodden of the world. They are commonly people
that most folks would try to avoid. Not so, the Hepworth boys look after these people, and
others. They looked after Lori and me.
There are many others that have mentored and educated me. They have helped me to see the
value of “Good Works”. To this end, I urge you all to participate in the upcoming election. I
have heard it said by some residents of the cities, “Oh I don’t need to vote, these are County
positions”. Well if, you live in Sugar City or Rexburg, you live in Madison County and should
take an active role in the upcoming elections. When I say that we should take an active role in
the upcoming election, I mean to say that we should educate ourselves on the issues that affect
us all. Most importantly we must learn of the Candidates. Not in just a cursory way, but we
should learn of their character as we assess them based upon their “Good Works”. It is easy
to go on someone else’s say-so; however we need to vote on peoples merit and past perfor-
mance.
The City of Rexburg is doing well! We are excited for spring, (if it gets here) and look forward
to the many activities scheduled for this coming year. Thank You All!

SPRING YARD WASTE CLEAN UP The proposed dates are April 7- May 19,
2012. Materials to be picked up must be out at the curb and not in the alleys or
right next to garbage cans. We will try to pick up materials on your scheduled gar-
bage pick up day. Please bag or bundle materials as much as possible so that they
may be picked up by hand. If the City has to use heavy equipment to load trees,
branches, etc. then you will be notified and you may be charged for the use of that
equipment. Limbs & branches should be bundled and cut no longer than 6 feet.
