The new Rexburg Gardens will be open with plots for your use (for a very small fee) and we hope they are well used. They have raised beds with a special garden soil. Much of the work and construc- tion was donated or provided to the City at cost or less. We want to acknowledge the contribution of Premier Powder Coating for their generosity as well as Mountain West Bark. These local enterprises were most generous! Congratulations to all the Graduates. This marks the End and a Start. Be excited about the future. The newness of anything is exciting. I like to see the new green plants at the start of a new growing season. When I think of new and fresh starts I am reminded of a very special young friend who has been stricken with diabetes. He is now four years old and has struggled with the vagaries of too much blood sugar and not enough blood sugar. It is amazing and miraculous that he is with us. He came into City Hall yes- terday. He was so excited! He just had to show me his insulin pump and explain to me how it all worked. He has exuberance and a zest for life that I wish I still had. His future is bright. He, thanks to great parents and the miracles of modern medi- cine, is virtually unlimited in his potential. I have another special friend who comes to City Hall and empties recycle bins and cleans the break room. She is an amazing young lady. She is legally blind and has a white cane. Her attitude is most inspiring. I have never heard her complain. She endures and looks forward to life. She has a zest and enthusiasm for life, not unlike my four year old friend. They both are an inspiration to me. They are good examples to us all. We must accept whatever life gives us and make the very best of our individual circumstances. At this writing we are about to pay tribute to a WWII veteran, Darrell C. Ne- ville, who spent time in the liberation of Norway. He was dealt a task that was daunting, but he served. He served us all and the contribution of men and women like him built our Nation and helped to preserve it. My two friends have the bright- ness of their future because of such men and women. We must strive to remember our Veterans. We must strive to see that their needs are met. We must, somehow, repay the debt. May you all have a great Spring and Summer. -Richard S.
