Did you have a Merry Christmas? How is the ‘Happy New Year’ part of it going?
I have a friend who I miss, Myrth Kidd. I have always had a deep and abiding respect
for her and others who have endured hard times. From her experiences, Myrth devel-
oped a way of looking at life’s trials that are best expressed by a saying she was ever
ready to repeat, “Life is what you make it, no more no less”.
We have an opportunity to make life a little better for ourselves and others by contrib-
uting to a fund that helps those struggling in our community. I am speaking of people
who are on limited incomes, and find that increased pricing on nearly everything erodes
their standard of living and even their ability to afford utilities to meet basic human
needs. There is a means by which we can help. It is called Rexburg Utility Payment
Assistance program (RUPA) and it is administered by the Finance Department at City
Hall. Below the City logo on the remittance portion of your utility statement, you can
mark how much you would like to donate to the utility assistance account (RUPA),
then when someone less fortunate is struggling to pay a utility bill they will get a little
bit of a break. You will have made a much appreciated difference in some one else’s
life. You will probably feel better about yourself as well. I am sure you will!
I choose to follow my friend’s admonition, “Life is what you make, it no more no less”.
Thank you, Myrth Kidd, and thanks to all of you who endeavor to make life a little bet-
ter for others. Have a Happy New Year.

Snow Removal Reminder
Responsibilities and Directions: Rexburg citizens and
businesses must remove snow and ice from adjacent
pedestrian areas. These areas include, but are not limited
to, sidewalks, parking lots, and driveways. Each year,
many avoidable accidents happen because of improper
snow and ice removal. Compliance is crucial if we are to
have a safe community. Citizens and business owners
must comply with the following directions in snow and
ice removal:
Citizens and business owners “cannot” push snow or ice
across or into public streets (Idaho Code § 18-3907).
Snow and ice, once removed, must be stored on the
property. For many property owners, snow and ice can
be stored in the yard or other locations on the property.
For owners of large properties, such as businesses with
large parking lots, snow and ice storage areas must be
incorporated into the property (Ordinance 1026 § 5.5[A]
[9]).
