Community Update
Mayors Message:
As school starts, it brings back fond memories of my childhood. There was a change in the
air and we felt fall coming. We started school later then, as most of us kids were involved in
the various harvests. The fall is a special time with those special smells; apple cider, sweet
corn, melons, and the sweet smell of soil being turned to yield up her treasures. It is a poign-
ant time as well. It is a time to ship cattle. It is a time to put the old to rest. It is a time to
ponder the future. It is a time to begin anew.
It is the same with the City of Rexburg. We take inventory of our past years performance. We
make adjustments where needed and we prepare for the future. Rexburg Rapids is now closed
for the year. It was a good season and we felt that it was very successful. Our parks were es-
pecially good this summer too. Some of the trees and shrubbery appear to be a little tired and
may not be with us next year. Some streets were torn up and replaced, some were widened,
and some new streets were built. All in all it was a very good year. Our budget was actually
less than anticipated. I had put into the budget a wish list. These were projects that we could-
n’t pay for unless we received grants or generous donations. I want to build a baseball com-
plex to the North of Rexburg Rapids. I want to build a wave pool at Rexburg Rapids which
would give us usable lap lanes and hopefully it would be a covered facility for year round use.
I also want to build an ice rink and roller hockey rink for year round fun. This wish list was
not realized this year but if we don’t dream big we might as well go home. You might think
that this is all “play stuff”, yes it is but after seeing the success of Rexburg Rapids, the Splash
Park, and the Carousel in bringing outside visitors into our town and KEEPING Rexburg
dollars in town, I firmly believe that the funds spent on these facilities is money well spent.
I have something else to say! Bob Yeatman and Greg McInnes have done a superb job this
past year. They have provided the fields, classes, and events our youth so desperately need.
We don’t have enough family farms or “mom n pop” shops to teach our young people those
great values along with the work ethic that people of my generation had the opportunity to
learn. We do have recreation programs and parks where young people can learn and grow
their work ethic and self discipline. These programs, the family dinner table, scouting and
church activities are all we have. This is so important! We have to provide the opportunity
for our children to succeed and grow. Like good crops they need nurturance. The best crop
the City of Rexburg can have is our youth!
May we strive together to make the needed changes and adjustments so that we may enjoy the
Harvest.

Recycling Update
Please be patient as we are continually striving to
work out the kinks and establish routes with the
new recycling program. More roll out containers
have been ordered and will be delivered to the
remaining residents as soon they arrive. We are
eagerly working to make sure everyone is getting
picked up and are very impressed with the little
amount of trash that we are having to sort out of
the recycling. There are a couple items that are a
continual problem, shredded paper and diapers.
Please, please, please place these items in your
trash container and not in the recycling con-
tainer. Once again, thank you for your spectacu-
lar participation in the program.
