We may have a new President by the time you read this newsletter, and winter will soon be upon us. We should pray for and contribute however we choose for those less fortu- nate, those afflicted by the wrath of Sandy. I think of Rexburg and how it has weathered the economic storm of the last few years and I think we should feel blessed. I do know that things are different at the gas pump and at the grocery store, but for the most part we have not experienced what many great cities and towns have endured. We seem to be protected in the Rexburg bubble. This causes me to worry that we are not always vigilant enough. There is an effort coming in Idaho to legalize marijuana for medicinal purposes. In Montana, if you don’t feel good, you can easily obtain a pre- scription. Our police department constantly intercepts “medicinal mariju- ana” that comes into Idaho from neighboring states and is sold here for illicit use. We must be vigilant of “designer” drugs that come through our conven- ience stores. Some are purposely marketed in a deceptive manner. The pervious City Council and Mayor approved ordinances well in advance of the State of Idaho and other cities in an effort to protect the youth of Rexburg; however, new combinations are constantly invented in order to target our youth directly. We need to be more vigilant when it comes to the television our children watch. We need to be more vigilant in monitoring the use of “smart phones” and handheld computers. One can watch the most vile, porno- graphic sites, and they are as easy as reaching into our shirt, coat pocket, or backpack. You may feel that I am “old fashioned”. It is so! I implore you to help in protecting and strengthening the Rexburg bubble. -Richard S.
