Snow in the mountains and rain in the valley. I have made Rexburg my home since 1985 and am quite convinced that this one has been the mildest winter of all. We have been able to save money on snow removal and look forward to making extra needed repairs to our streets. Many of you are aware of the joint recycling program with BYU-I. This pro- gram promises to be very successful and will employ as many as 80 university students. It will reduce the cost of garbage services for the City of Rexburg due to the reduced tonnage taken to the county transfer station. We will need the cooperation of our residents. We will still have the large recycling bins located in various locations in the city. We are currently single stream recycling in two neighborhoods, but will start adding a new area each month until September when all of the City will be recycling. We will be doing spring clean-up earlier this year, the proposed dates are from April 9-May 18. We will be ready to pick up your prunings and trimmings at your curb. On July 14 we will have a pick up site where you can drop off toxic wastes such as insecticides, solvents, paints etc. The new year and coming spring is exciting; I guess it is the farmer blood in me. I saw robins the other day, and now my ponies winter coat is for the most part all shed off. It brings hope for new accomplishments, and the expectation that Rexburg will continue to be the special place that it is. Thanks to you all! And a special thanks to the city employees! -Richard S. If the City has to use heavy equipment to load trees, branches, etc. then you yard waste, you will be notified and you may be charged for the use of that equipment. Limbs & branches should be bundled and cut in 4' to 6' lengths.
