Hello My Dear Rexburgers,
It's hard to believe the year end is nigh upon us. Wow, where did the tfme go so quickly? I love that we have
two of my favorite holidays at this tfme. We have so much to be thankful for in this community. I have seen
and heard of so many acts of kindness to others. We had a successful Christmas Tree Festfval with nearly
$3000 raised to be donated to Shop with a Cop. And speaking of Shop with a Cop, our Rexburg Police Depart-
ment will be hostfng and helping approximately 80 kids this year to have a better Christmas. We appreciate
the involvement of the Madison County Sheriff's department as well as many other law enforcement agen-
cies from around the area. There will be a police car parade complete with lots of flashing lights and sirens
that the kids get to control as they ride in the cars with the Officers. It is certainly a sight to behold. The pa-
rade starts at 6 am on Saturday Dec. 9th. Yes, it usually is a bit brisk, so bundle up and come watch the fun.
I've been surprised at how many people actually come to watch the parade down Main Street and support
the kids. It's a fun tfme for everyone!
My wife and I were privileged to attend the BYU Idaho Christmas program recently. How fortunate we are to
have BYU Idaho here in Rexburg and be able to have access to such wonderful programs. As we celebrate
Christ's birth, programs like these help us to feel his pure love for each of us and in turn reminds us to share
that love and respect with all those we come in contact with each day. I saw some students out on Center
Street with their "Light the World" sign, giving away free hot chocolate and visitfng with people. We saw vid-
eo clips of so many students and local citfzens helping out at food banks and other charitfes to help those in
need have a better Christmas. We have many volunteers that help with a food distributfon program on an
ongoing basis each month to help those struggling with food insecurity. I am so happy to see these kinds of
actfvitfes happening here in Rexburg. If you haven't taken the opportunity to help with some of these pro-
jects, please consider doing so. It is a great way to teach ourselves, our children and grandchildren what the
real meaning of Christmas is. If you have questfons of how to get involved, call City Hall. We can direct you to
the right people.
I am grateful that our former Mayor and his good companion made it home last week. Mayor Woodland
stopped by City Hall to get re-acquainted and we all enjoyed his short visit complete with accounts of their
adventures back east for the last two years. Good to have them back in town!
I am so grateful for the good people, I work with. We are fortunate to have very dedicated city employees
that are working hard to take care of all of us and provide the services that help us have a great quality of life
here. We are not perfect and do make mistakes but I see every day the desire to make Rexburg a great place
to live, conduct business and raise a family. I also would like to compliment our City Council members for
being dedicated and doing such a great job for all of us. We don't always agree on everything, but there is a
mutual respect that helps us to consider the optfons and opinions and try to make the best decisions for all
of you.
And last but not least, I am grateful for the sappy, predictable Hallmark Christmas shows that my wife makes
me watch with her. Thanks to an elderly lady from one of these shows, I garnered a bit of wisdom. She said,
"In all my experience in life, I've learned there is nothing more valuable than kindness. A little bit can change
a whole day…a whole year…a whole life!" May we each be a bit kinder, more loving and respectiul to one
another. I appreciate so much all your words of encouragement. I really do love serving as your Mayor and I
wish each of you a very Merry Christmas and a wonderful New Year!!

The Shop with a Cop program joins
children who are in need with local
law enforcement officers, providing
the children with money to shop for
Christmas presents for their families
and themselves. The program is
funded completely from donations.
Underprivileged children who partici-
pate in the program are chosen by
law enforcement officers.
Children and officers meet the morning of Shop with a
Cop where they travel together in a law enforcement vehi-
cle, with lights and siren. First they enjoy a breakfast do-
nated by McDonalds and then go to Walmart to shop.
Not only do the children get a chance to purchase Christ-
mas presents that they otherwise would not be able to buy,
but they also get a chance to build a positive relationship
with law enforcement.
Donations to the program can be made at the
Rexburg Police Department
