Hello Everyone,
Well, we all survived and even enjoyed the Eclipse! It was definitely an interesting experience. We
had so many visitors from all over the country and the world here in Rexburg. We had a very nice
family from Vermont right next to us at Riverside Park and it was very fun to visit with and get to
know them. Now, we have some new friends from Vermont! They were very complimentary of
how clean and beautiful our city is and how well organized and ready we were to handle all the
people who came to Rexburg. I was surprised by the quietness of our downtown area on Sunday. I
thought there would be more people looking for places to eat lunch and dinner but what seemed
to be the case was that most of the people were staying with all of you or they were campers who
came prepared with their own food. The one big demand we saw was people lined up out the
doors of our restaurants on Monday morning looking for breakfast and coffee! Everyone I talked
to said their church congregations were overflowing that Sunday so that’s where a lot of the peo-
ple were…and that’s a good thing. We have received many letters complimentary of how well
folks were treated here in Rexburg, the following is just one:
Mayor Merrill-
We watched the Eclipse in Rexburg with friends from out of state. We summer in Island Park. Our
friends visited Rexburg on Sunday to find the parks where watching would take place and then we
all ventured south early Monday morning for the Eclipse. Both days, our visitors commented on
the friendly residents and friendly businesses and the loveliness of the city. The community was
prepared for tourists and welcomed us to the Eclipse watching areas. We ended up at Smith Park.
The readiness was not an accident- your community planned and worked hard to do such a great
job.
Thank you,
Karen and Tom Duncan
I would like to commend all of our city staff and other cooperating agencies who helped make the
Eclipse experience so nice for all of these visitors. You all made it a great experience too, as noted
in the Duncan’s letter by being kind and friendly…thank you for just being you!
Now… back to football, soccer, volleyball, cross country, school, work and all the normalcies of our
beautiful Rexburg Fall. We’ll see you around town and as I love to say…..Life is Great…..in Rexburg,
Idaho!!!
